Hello guys!
So, I’m just about to finish downloading the Windows 7 Beta. I only have two computers (my main Dell PC and this Sammy), and since Microsoft says to avoid installing it on your main work computer, I’ve decided to install it on my sammy. The problem is, I have no idea how to go about doing so.Is there anyone who can give me clear instructions on installing the Windows 7 Beta on my nc10?
I understand that since I don’t have an external DVD drive, I have to install it from my USB drive (which is 8 gigs) but I need to know how to do this.
I would really appreciate anyone with experience to give me some instructions. Thank you. Also:
-I heard that the BIOS has to be updated first, or I’ll get a blue screen of death.
-Do I have to update my drivers first, or can I do that after the installation?
-Will all my programs still be on my nc10 after the installation (I only have a couple games, Microsoft Office, Netlogo and PLT Scheme)? Thanks for the help!

bios doesnt have to be updated
drivers can be done after
yep they’ll still be on xpJanuary 11, 2009 at 4:24 am #179339emeowwwMemberI’ve found a better way to install the beta without needing usb/dvd’s – extract the contents of the iso file onto your hard drive e.g. with 7-Zip, and run setup.exe directly – you have the same options of upgrade or clean install. Did this on my desktop, haven’t yet tried it on my Sammy (still ‘testing’ it lol)

January 11, 2009 at 11:46 am #179340emeowwwMemberDoes anyone know if installing Windows 7 beta will remove Samsung Boot recovery (the F4 option on boot up)?
And if it does, can I still restore my XP image (from D drive) by installing and running Recovery Solution through Windows instead? Cheers
January 11, 2009 at 11:52 am #179333dinoMemberalso, from the other win7 thread, most seem to be dual-booting with XP still. is there any reason to keep XP on your system – anyone had major crashes with win7?
when you enable XP compatibility mode in win7, what do you loose?
January 12, 2009 at 1:37 am #179338NucleonMemberI don’t think installing Windows 7 would get rid of the Samsung Boot recovery at boot-up, since that seems to be something that is built into the bios itself.
January 12, 2009 at 1:48 am #179337hufnMemberWell, I believe the boot recovery uses the recovery partiton at the begining of the drive, and if you delete that it may be an issue. I haven’t tested it yet, but then again I have no use for the recovery options anyway – personal preference 😉
January 12, 2009 at 11:41 am #179341emeowwwMemberThanks ppl, just took the plunge and went ahead.
I found it does not remove the Recovery partition or the F4 option – I did not modify any partitions during setup, and just installed it in my XP space.
Upon restoring XP, Windows 7 offers you a roll back feature, but I used Recovery Solution instead to restore my previous image (faster, clean method).
