Hi all, new memeber, had my samsung nc10 since launch day in the uk and am a huge fan.
Currently i use the machine as my primary computer, however now i’m unable to load windows due to deleting my linux partition and messing up the grub filesystem.
I’ve gone out and brought a external dvdrw from pcworld, now trying to install windows xp again or windows 7 (preferably). I encounter errors at the start screen of the installation before i can press anything or in vista and 7’s case it just stops when it says windows loading installation files.
Is there any settings i need to adjust in the bios to be able to load the setup cd’s?
Thanks
The only thing you should have to do is change the boot order in the BIOS, though it sounds like you have already done that.
Have you tried fixing the master boot record so that you can boot the copy of Windows XP that is on the computer?
If you manage to boot from the Windows XP disk, you can select “R” and then “K” to get to the recovery console then use the command “fixmbr”.
Unfortunitly i am unable to even get that far into the windows installtion to get into the recovery console but thanks
Have you checked that both the DVD drive and the disk work on another computer?
hmm… seem to have the same problem using the dvd drive with my other machine. must mean the drive is falulty.
Thanks
Did you try several different disks in the drive to rule out a problem with the Windows disk?
yea i did, i tried 4-5 different discs. so looks like i will have to get a replacement drive…. i’ve been trying to install windows from a usb drive just no luck getting it to boot.
