Though I love most everything about my little Sammy, I could NOT get used to the trackpad buttons — recessed, hard to find without looking, seemed difficult to push with my big thumbs.
A very small addition has been a big improvement for me. I took a strip of craft sticky-back foam (about 1/16″ thick), cut it to approx the size of the button strip, and stuck it on. Huge improvement in tactile feedback and ease of use.
Maybe you’ll like it too.

[/quote1232944610]Sorry to take so long getting these posted, but here are a couple of pics of the modified mouse-button(s). It’s a very simple addition, and makes the buttons both easy to find and even easier to click. It would still be my very first mod to the NC10.

January 26, 2009 at 11:36 am #175951fcatMemberI remapped the key to the left of the right hand shift key, to make this Shift aswell, so now it doesnt matter if i hit the Shift or what was the key which i remapped to the key below the Esc key!!
This works great!

[/quote1232982555]That would be a nice improvement over rmy foam-tape kludge. I’ve been keeping my eye open for a clear gel-type material that is the right size, or could be cut to fit.
January 26, 2009 at 3:45 pm #175944abandonMemberHmm – innovative. How do you remap keys ?
January 26, 2009 at 4:58 pm #175952fcatMemberJust download this little program
http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/
When you open it up click on the teach menu, select full teach, it then opens up a small window, press scan or soemthgin like that to start then you press the key you want to move and then the key you want to replace it with, then click remap, thats it!!
It says you the changes wont come into effect till you re start however you can just log off and then back on and it works fine.
January 28, 2009 at 11:37 am #175945abandonMemberVery cool thanks. I am actually getting used to the key now. But I will try out this program.
January 28, 2009 at 5:55 pm #175950ParodyMemberThat shift key has to be annoying. I bought the NC10 because it has a much more normal US keyboard layout compared to most of the other netbooks. (Tiny Shift key to the right of the up arrow? No, thanks!)
ObTopic: Neat addition to the button bar. It looks a bit too thick to me, but whatever works, right? :)
In the past I’ve seen clear stick-on replacement sliding material for mice on sale in computer stores. Something like that might work for this.January 29, 2009 at 1:29 am #175953stjohnhMemberI love my new computer…… Except for the touchpad… Samsung did everything else right….
MY FIX: For the pad itself: I put small strips of regular office tape (scotch magic type, not glossy) about 1/4″ wide ON the touchpad, about 1/8″ in from the edges. This gives just enough “edge” to feel when I get to the egde of the usable area (which is amazingly smaller than the marked area, even with the scroll areas turned off).
FOR THE CLICK BAR: (much prettier than the black foam) I took a regular paper hole punch and punched out 2 round pieces of thin double stick foam tape and put 2 sequins on the tape. The sequins are perfect size, come in dozens of colors and give your baby a custom look. Easy, cheap, looks good and very effective.
My NC-10 is my upgrade from my nearly 2 year old original ASUS 7″ eee. Amazingly my tiny eee has a larger touchpad than my NC-10.
Cheers
