MemberHi, I’m a little confused here. On my other PCs, the C: drive is normally referred to as partition(1) in the boot.ini file. But I just had a look at the NC10’s boot.ini file and it boots to partition(2), which is the C: drive. Is the hidden restore partition referred to as partition(1) or is it the D: drive? Would like to sort out my confusion on this.
The reason this all came about was I finally decided to upgrade XP Home to XP PRO. (This is after I had already put my applications on the NC10. Also after I installed the WIN 7 Beta on the D: Drive. I really am not as comfortable with 7 as I am with good ol’ WIN XP PRO, so probably will not keep it for much longer.) But would like to know, if I do decide to again set up a double boot, how to refer to the D: partition, etc.
Thanks for your help.

MemberPartition 1 is the recovery partition
partition 2 is C
Partition 3 is DInteresting, disk/partitioning numbering is wacky in windows/bootloader
1st System Disk is always 0 but 1st Partition is always 1
I’m in the process of trying to upgrade to Pro as well. I tried to do it all with USB Thumb Drive, but no avail. I finally broke down and bought the $70 Sammy DVD burner USB, external, etc. I figure I should backup Docs/Pics to some DVD’s while I’m at it as well.
IMPORTANT: If you are installing windows again from a disc, BE SURE TO DELETE ALL PARTITIONS. Samsung screws with the Partition tables with the OEM garbage so you need to delete all partitions before re-installing. I even recommend deleting partitions, then restarting setup and continuing like normal.

Bare in mind that if you delete the recovery partition you can’t recreate it.January 22, 2009 at 1:37 am #180574hufn
MemberWithin the hardware system most devices (Drives, Controllers, etc…) all are counted ordinally, which means the first device is 0. However, the one exception is Partitions on a HD which is counted cardinally, which means the first one is 1. It’s no that it’s wacky per se, just done this way 🙂
