initially i thought Recovery solution will create the hidden area…
So I do a clean XP install by the provided CD, del all the partition during the setup, after I finiahed the installation,
I install all the driver, and some of the software, but I can’t install the recovery solution back..it is said it can’t find the hidden area, so that it can’t let me install the recovery solution.
What can I to make the recovery solution work ( that’s mean if there are a problem, i can’t press F4 on the startup to do recovery)February 10, 2009 at 11:56 pm #183359AlfiharParticipantThere is no way to restore the recovery partition if it has been removed,
at-least not with the disks that came with the NC10.February 11, 2009 at 12:02 am #183367siupiuMemberI did search around in the forum, and find out that it said it can only restore the hidden area when completed complete backup to DVD, but i didn’t do it..so , I think i may just give it up, actually I did send the e-mail to samsung, let see what they say..
February 11, 2009 at 12:06 am #183360AlfiharParticipantI think someone else here emailed Samsung as well, and were told they couldn’t restore it.
If you had made a copy of the contents of the recovery partition and boot sector then it could be restored.
Personally I removed my recovery partition as it seemed like a waste of space to me. I have an external optical drive so I can just use that to recover/reinstall (sounds like you have one as well).
February 11, 2009 at 12:14 am #183363TCMuffinMemberI agree with Alfihar.
One of the first things I did was to reformat the whole drive and reinstall a clean copy of Windows XP Home from the supplied Samsung Recovery Media via a USB stick.
Given the fact that Samsung supply recovery CDs and the low cost of external USB hard drives, I honestly can’t imagine why anyone would want a ‘recovery partition’ wasting space on their hard drive.

The only two reasons I can think of are:-1) To make use of the backup part of Samsungs recovery software, though there are other solutions/software.
2) Don’t (intend to) own an external optical drive or a memory stick of sufficient capacity, or because the bundled recovery software is easy to use (maybe) and has instructions.
February 11, 2009 at 12:26 am #183368siupiuMemberActually the reason I want the recovery solution back is I can Press F4 at the start if there are problem of my windows and can do it anytime i want..

February 11, 2009 at 12:30 am #183366summertanMemberI’ve learned the more restoring options you have, the better in a krisis situtation. It’s only 6GB and it may save you when other solutions fail.
Recently I was trying to restore the backup of my old sammy on a friend’s sammy. It was a complicated process since the free program did not allow me to overwrite the active windows partition so I had to transfer first on D partition then copy it over to C. Things went bad so my final option was to hit restore and since that was MY restore not my friends I was able to complete the operation without optical drive available. So moral is keep as many restore options as possible, 6GB is not a big price for that.
February 11, 2009 at 12:34 am #183365TCMuffinMemberAnother fair comment.
I’m primarily using my Sammy as an on-site installation and network testing tool and a test-bed for dfferent operating systems. I don’t expect to be holding much (if any) data, so I have a very different view of recovery options.
Besides which, at home, I have NAS for backup across the whole of my network.

[/quote1234324804]You can recreate the recovery partition if you have done a full backup to external dvd. I have tried it and it works.
I posted that info here:

So, I just give it up, and use another backup software
