MemberDoes anyone know how quiet the Samsung NC10 is, in comparison to other netbooks?
I wrote an article about the quietest netbook over on my site (see article) but I am unable to get a hold of a Samsung NC10 for testing. (no Samsung laptops in Japan)
I’d like to alter my chart with your responses, so if you have used at least an NC10 and another netbook I’d love to hear what you think!

MemberIt’s pretty quiet. When the fan comes on, I can’t hear it unless the room I’m in is silent. Sometimes I can hear the hard drive, but usually only when I make it chug along with a huge queue of downloads.
I haven’t used any of the other netbooks but I imagine the NC10 fits somewhere around your top 3.

Membergimme a link back to this site and I’ll tell all ;)!
But seriously, I have not owned another netbook so cannot make a direct comparison. A few people on here do and have written comparisons so that may help you. Hunt around for the threads or even PM those owners – hopefully they’ll reply.
In my opinion, it is pretty damn quiet. For the most part it is silent but every now and then a fan can be heard. It does however pass the ultimate “wife test”. My Mrs thinks that my super quiet desktop sounds like a vacuum cleaner. It doesnt. It is built from ultra quiet components sourced from silent pc review. Passive sound card, large silent fans etc. But no, it’s still comparable to a jumbo jet taking off.
The NC10 however… apparently now that really is a quiet PC and is therefore allowed in the living room ;)!

MemberI own both and I can tell you from hands on expirience that the Aspire One is significantly louder than the NC-10.

ParticipantThere may be some variance between NC10’s due to different hard drives, the Fujitsu hard drive in mine is considerably louder than the fan.
I don’t own any other netbooks, so I can’t make any comparisons though.

[/quote1230047148]Same here. I have the Fujitsu hard drive and when it gets going chugging along it’s more noticeable than the fan.
It’s too bad a high quality SSD is still around $600.

MemberI have the Toshiba drive in mine which is very quiet. I still hear it and the fan occasionally if I really listen for them. Otherwise, I consider the NC10 to be silent.

MemberLike others have mentioned the only noise is from the hard drive (if its a Fujitsu). I had another NC10 with a Toshiba HD and it was silent.

MemberI had an ASUS 900 and the default fan speed on them is very loud.
I find that the hard drive on my NC10 is noisier than the fan

MemberIt’s much quieter than the 1000h that I had for a while.

MemberIt’s at the top if you don’t get one with the fujitsu hard drive. The fan is very quiet and non obtrusive but the F drive is extremely annoying when it parks the head every now and then or if you have anti-vuris that causes writing of the windows Registry to the hard drive every 5 seconds.

Memberfrychiko,
I have a decibel meter. If you give me a distance/location I can do a test for you. -
