how do we know the maximum ram NC10 can take is 2GB?
I am askin because according to the specifications, my Presario M2005 laptop can take maximum 1GB of ram and I just installed total of 1.5 GB and Windows recognized it ….
So is there a way to actually probe the maximum RAM of a laptop besides putting a RAM module in?
Nope. But the limit of the Intel 945 Chipset is 2gb per ram bank. The Sammy has one bank. So 2gb is the max.
I’m pretty sure that somewhere on this planet someone actually tried a 4GB Module on a single Intel 945 Chipset memory bank and since google knows nothing about any success… 😉
Technically the chipset can handle 4GB (in 2 banks) but since there is no secondary bank soldered into current generation netbooks we all are limited to 2GB
It’s a good exercise to go to crucial.com and download and run the memory scanner. It tells you the current installed memory and the maximum memory supported.
It told me my maximum supported memory on Presario was 1GB yet it recognizes I have 1.5 GB installed. Interesting LOL

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet!
A while back I saw this thread over on the MyDellMini site, Will a 4GB Ram chip work?. Where a couple of users tried 4GB RAM modules and it wouldn’t boot. It’s a limitation of the 945 chipset.
