MemberHi
I have a new Black NC10 and I love it. I have got this as an early brithday present from my hubby (I couldn’t wait till June)
I can connect no problem at all to the internet at home, but when I go around to my Dads house, it doesn’t even pick up that he has a wireless network. On my laptop, it picked it up straight away. Should I change any settings?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,

MemberCan you remember if anything had to tweaked on your laptop in order to enable internet at your dads house?
If yes than the same setting need to be applied to the NC10

MemberI didn’t change anything when I took the laptop round. It just said that wireless networks were in the range of this computer and I connected. Dads was unsecured then. Its now secure but the NC10 isn’t even saying that there are wireless networks in the range. Wierd eh

MemberIts not strange. Your Dad’s wireless has probably being configured NOT to broadcast the SSID. Without knowing the SSID and password, you will not be able to connect.

MemberThanks for the quick response. Can I change the way Dad’s is set up then? He knows less than I do about it, but he would be happy to let me change it if I knew how.

MemberIs your dads network protected by a password ? does he know it ?

MemberYes, we both know the password

MemberYou also need to know the SSID as well. To find out the SSID, you need to access your Dad’s router and the wireless section. If he has not changed it, it might be the default name used by the manufacturer of the wireless router.

MemberIf you have discovered the wireless network using another laptop then it is unlikely that broadcast SSID is set to off. However it’s still worth checking. Log onto the Router configuration page (usually something like http://192.168.1.1) and change broadcast SSID/network name to Yes. Then try searching for the network from the NC10 again.
It may also be worthwhile updating/reinstalling the wireless network card drivers on the NC10 to make sure you have the latest version. The latest WLAN driver can be found here.

MemberThis might be an obvious one… but try toggling the WLAN on/off using Fn+F9.
