The question of 1 or 2 GB of RAM is really dependant on what you are going to be using your NC10 for, if you run programs which require a lot of RAM or run lots of programs at the same time you may benefit from the upgrade. Also if you want to install Vista, 2GB helps.
Personally I would use the NC10 for a while and see how it goes with 1GB.
What programs are you going to be running on your NC10?
December 29, 2008 at 2:54 pm #177790BeckyMemberWelcome Jay. 🙂
I was given a RAM upgrade to 2Gb for Christmas. I tend to open a lot of tabs in my browser and before the upgrade things got a bit sluggish when doing this, especially if the tabs contained flash or video content. I haven’t noticed any such problems since the upgrade.
Haven’t tried watching any movies yet, but I expect an improvement here as well.
With the appropriate RAM being so cheap, I really think it’s a great investment. Even moreso if you get it as a gift like I did. 😀
December 29, 2008 at 4:34 pm #177796jay_2kMemberHi Alfihar and Becky
I am using the netbook for the internet for now. I am going on holiday in jan for two weeks and i will then be using it for watching videos and playing games. I have seen it for £13 but i dont know if the ram is good quality. I have found in the past if you buy cheap you get poor quality products. So £13 or £25 for coursair.
I got £250 off my parents for christmas towards a new netbook so this nc10 only cost me £50 so i dont mind spending a little to get is running to it’s full potential.
Regards

December 29, 2008 at 9:59 pm #177791BeckyMemberI’m using the “cheap” ram from Play as discussed in this thread:
http://www.sammymobile.com/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?6353
To be honest, I don’t think there’s any difference between brands when you’re using it for something like a netbook. I’m certainly more than happy with the quality of mine. 🙂
December 29, 2008 at 9:59 pm #177789jezMemberMy corsair value ram was about £17 I think, my blog post on the RAM upgrade links to the one I bought anyway. For that price it seems you may as well pop it in imo. If it had been £50 or so I think it would be a tougher choice.
Now that I have a virtual machine set up and running the extra 1gb is definitely used!
December 29, 2008 at 10:20 pm #177797jay_2kMemberBritman – Shame we dont have the same taste in football teams 😛
Becky – I guess you are right, but i may go for the corsair RAM, not much extra but the quality i desire will keep my happy
jez – I will read up on your post again about RAM, £17 for corsair is a pretty good price!

That’s fair enough. If paying a little extra (and it really is only a little) gives you peace of mind, then go for it. 🙂
December 29, 2008 at 11:08 pm #177794BritmanMemberHave to agree, for £17 you can’t not do the upgrade.
December 30, 2008 at 7:24 pm #177798jay_2kMemberI just went to order the RAM from amazon but it’s a 4-5 week wait. So I have found it for about the same price on play.com so i am going to get it from them. for the sake of few £££ I will get the corsair
