MemberHello, everyone. I’m expecting my black NC10 to arrive tomorrow and I’m very excited. I’ve been perusing these forums for the past couple of weeks and think you’ve got a good thing going here. I’ve especially enjoyed Alfihar’s posts…very informative stuff. Thanks for all of it.
I’ve been considering buying the NC10 for a few weeks now and finally took the plunge. I’m a bit of a unconventional computer user: I run Linux at home full time and enjoy resurrecting old hardware to see if I can get them running again. Linux is perfect for that. So most of my hardware is older desktop systems and the NC10 will be my first (non-work related) laptop computer. My plan is to just play around with it, testing out multiple Linux distros. It sounds like Fedora 10 is the way to go at this stage, so I’m planning on installing the XFCE spin of Fedora 10, which I hope works ‘out of the box’ just as well as the regular Gnome version, on the NC10.
I have a soft spot for gaming as well and plan on keeping the Windows partition in order to play some older Windows based games that I haven’t played in quite a while.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to contribute some useful information in the Linux and Games sections soon.

MemberHi stv – glad you’ve been enjoying the forums to date. And agreed, there are some great contributers on here so I’d also like to thanks everyone for making the forum work!
Good to have another Linux fan around too, I think most of us on here like to tinker around a bit! Although I must admit I’m a Windows kind of guy 😉

ParticipantWelcome to the forum stv.
Glad my posts have been useful to you.I expect the XFCE spin of Fedora 10 to work fine, though it will probably need to be updated to fix a couple of minor problems. I’m just waiting for the 2.6.29 kernel, as that should fix the backlight controls. The latest Gnome version of SUSE may also be a good choice as it also has correctly working backlight controls.
Let us know how it goes.

MemberWell, I received the NC10 tonight and am having fun trying it out. I installed Fedora 10 (XFCE Spin) and everything seems to be working fine. I haven’t tested all of the function keys yet, but there’s time for that later. Just getting used to Fedora as I have not used this distro before. I’m just happy I didn’t somehow bork WIndows after partitioning the drive…it’s been a few years since I’ve dual booted. 🙂
