When I accessed the Phoenix BIOS to set passwords, I was able to set a Supervisor and a User Boot password but the HDD Password was described as “Frozen” and the BIOS would not let me have access to entering a password. The netbook seems to be functioning fine. Any advice or comments greatfully received ?
Just tried this on my NC10 and initially each field was described as “Clear”.
Set each password in turn (Supervisor, User, and HDD) and now all three are described as “Set”.
By the way, I have BIOS version 04CA. If you need to update your BIOS (or any other Samsung software, firmware, etc.) the latest versions of the manuals, drivers, software, and firmware can be downloaded from the SamsungPC website.
The Reason why the HDD password was set to frozen is because you performed a warm (re)boot by selecting “Restart” in Windows.
You can only set the HDD password when you perform a cold start -> NC10 needs to be switched off, start it, enter bios, bios password feature will be unlocked.
Thanks to TCMuffin & to Don_Audio.
After reading TCMuffin, I realised my BIOS needed updating from 03CA to 04CA, but I still had the same ‘poroblem’ with HDD Frozen Password even after updating. Don-Audio is spot-on with the “solution” : the problem solved !
Thank you, Don_Audio, I didn’t realise this 🙂
