Since I got my NC10, I’ve noticed that the hard drive “clicks” quite frequently even when the netbook’s idle. Also the fan seems to be on at all times. My question is, is this normal?
I dont think that my fan is on all the time (have you tried putting it into silent mode – function key and f8?) That underclocks the processor keeping it cooler and making the fan either silent or turns it off complely. The hard disk will do a tiny amount of work even when the netbook is idle, but shouldnt click. From my experience clicking noises often mean hard disk faults – how old is the netbook?
I just got it brand new last Friday and it’s on Normal Mode atm. The fan gives sort of bursts of air it seems but I’m not sure about the hard drive…it does click quite a bit but I hope it isn’t faulty. My desktop hard drive clicks way more and louder so I just needed some assurances that the NC10 does in fact make some noises. 🙂
It will make some noises yeah, but they shouldnt be excessive. Mines silent even when its doing loads of things at once! Where did you buy it from? Maybe take it back and just ask for their advice?
