MemberHi There
Dropping in to say hello and to identify myself : I’m Jon Bradbury, and if you have an EeePC or MSI Wind you might recognise the name, as I moderate on Eeeuser.com and MsiWind.net forums.
I started out with one of the earliest Asus EeePC 701s, then acquired a 901 (I did a review for eeeuser.com). I chopped that in for an Advent 3211 (Msi Wind clone) but due to an unfortunate series of events ended up returning it to the retailer where I bought it from.
I now have…. a Samung NC10 – whey-hey! – and am particularly interested in running Linux on it. I have Ubuntu at the moment, and participate in a new forum / blog aimed at getting this setup running properly. I didn’t set the blog / forum up myself, but I’m actively involved and administrate the forum.
My experience with the NC10 is a bit mixed.
I find the keyboard a bit big, but the arrow keys are way too small. I guess I am too used to the 701! The touchpad is one of the worst ones I have ever used, and I particularly hate the way you can barely feel the borders. I also dislike the shiny lid as it attracts fingerprints.
Still, on the other hand, I think the battery life is outstanding and in all other respects it’s very good indeed, which is why I bought it.
I’m looking forward to discussing it with you.
Regards
Jon Bradbury

MemberWelcome to the forum! It’s always interesting to hear from owners of other netbooks and how they have found the NC10. I’ve only ever had one so there is a danger I am not all that objective lol!
There is another umbuntu blog out there too – I expect you have seen it! http://nc10ubuntu.wordpress.com/
I’ll pop your link into my info page on next edit!

Welcome

MemberYes jez, the Umbongo NC10 blog you are linking to is the source of the forum. I suggested to the blog owner that he should set the forum up, and together we have done it. However, it is dedicated to the rather narrow topic of running Umbongo on the NC10, and this is one of the reasons I’ve joined your fine (and rather broader) forum.

[/quote1228816301]Cool – sounds ideal, I look forward to pointing Umbuntu fans in that direction. I think this site will always be a bit more general and beginner orientated – if only because that matches my level of expertise lol! Hopefully other people will follow their own favourite areas and we can all come together to form a strong community :).
There is also a wiki starting up at http://www.nc10users.com and a few forum goers here wanted a less restrictive forum so I think they may be setting something up too (assuming they put their money where their mouth is!).
Should mean that the NC10 is well supported by its users 🙂

MemberThere’s nothing on it… 🙁
On the other hand, we’ve extracted all the useful Umbongo info and posted it here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NC10
So if you fancy giving UmBongo a go, well, now you can!

[/quote1228828367]The Wiki? No, nothing their yet. I’m waiting for the owner to set up a little bit of a framework and then we’ll see if we can get it going 🙂
