How much better or worse is the card on the NC20 than the MX?
I used to have the MX and it was fine for very old games.
February 24, 2009 at 11:16 am #184776jezMemberyikes I think that will be quite hard to answer unless per chance someone on here has an NC20 and one of those cards! We need some way to benchmark it.
What sort of games did you have in mind? I would expect anything circa Unreal Tournament to work great. What’s that, about 1998. But like I say, that’s just a guess!
We need some NC20 owners to feedback what games have worked well for them :)!
February 24, 2009 at 11:50 am #184777AlfiharParticipantI just tried to look up some benchmarks. With something like 3Dmark 2001 they seem to be quite similar though the Geforce 2 MX 64MB card does appear to be a bit faster.
Then again it’s a synthetic benchmark and there are other factors…

http://www.nvnews.net/articles/quake3_shootout/high_resolution.shtmlYou could download a Quake 3 demo and benchmark it to compare. My old desktop rig was a P3 1GHz, 1GB RAM on an Asus CUSL2-C motherboard, and Asus Geforce2 GTS 64MB graphics. It clocked 77-78 fps on timedemo, demo1 on max settings, 1024×768 resolution.
I did a timedemo once on the NC10, can’t remember the figure, although it was less than the desktop… (maybe 64-68 on ‘standard settings’ at 800×600?)

February 24, 2009 at 2:09 pm #184783emeowwwMemberJust did a few benchmarks (got bored :P). Seems the 945/Atom combo is quite comparable, if not slightly better than a P3 700MHz/Geforce2 MX rig as in the linked site (note that PC has 128MB RAM, but it appears that doesn’t degrade overall performance comparing figures to mine on the P3):
Default settings:
60.1fps – 640×480
56.3fps – 1024×600Max settings:
59.7fps – 640×480
56.0fps – 1024×600Just for laughs, I also benchmarked my current desktop (Duo Core 2.66GHz, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD4850 512MB). You can obviously see why the Sammy has never been sold as a (modern) gaming machine:
Default settings:
721.7fps – 640×480 (timedemo completed in 1.9s lol)
535.6fps – 1024×768
369.0fps – 1440×900Max settings:
716.7fps – 640×480
530.8fps – 1024×768
368.2fps – 1440×900Don’t think the 945 chipset supports TnL – looking at Intel’s site, it appears only for the 950:

February 24, 2009 at 5:05 pm #184780jrdtunesMemberInteresting stuff, I wonder how well the NC20 would handle the original Counterstrike online?
March 1, 2009 at 3:44 pm #184781jrdtunesMemberAnyone? Or QuakeLive?
March 12, 2009 at 10:44 pm #184785stingerblueMemberIts also similar to a P3 x2 700mhz, Geforce MX 420.
Got an error message about tnl (old game), but its possible to emulate tnl with 3danalyzer.
March 14, 2009 at 10:00 am #184784maccerMemberQuakelive runs quite well in firefox on the NC20, however I frequently get booted off servers for no reason. I cannot get it working in IE though.
