i want to install vista on my nc10, and i wonder if anybody has already suceeded in installing an small and fast version of vista using vlite? vista recognizes most of the hardware without the need of additional drivers, so i think leaving this untouched would be a good idea. but one could certainly apply performance tweaks and remove components.
I dont have any experiences with vLite, but a few things would be, disable indexing, disable compression of files, disable UAC, disable Aero, disable Defender.

disabling indexing is a must, i always did that with nlite and windows xp. but i definitely want aero 🙂 defender and UAC will be left untouched also, i think these are good features of vista. well i think i’ll just play around with vlite
Yep, crunched down my vista instillation to 900 meg.
Expect an instillation to sit at about 4.5gb. I’m ssure this could be improved upon. But removing things you dont need like driver libraries, languages, games, sidebar does the trick
If you need fancy things, install ubuntu with compiz. Installing vista on a netbook makes no sense. Well, not even on other machines…
I do like the look of Vista, but on a netbook I stay with XP and use a Vista Cover from Bricopacks. I all so add little programs like WinFlip which works like aero. And I use Rocketdock with another little program called stacks which works like it does on mac osx. I have all that on all mt laptops and my eee pc701 so I know I’ll like it on my NC 10 when I get it for Christmas. 🙂
