As above really, I installed Gmail notifier and suddenly the battery life shortened dramatically.
Uninstalled it pretty quickly and all is well again.
Funny, I’ve become obsessed with the remaining battery life…. ;o)
I’m very fussy about my battery life too and don’t tend to keep apps that use a lot of power.
Have you tried using Windows Live Mail? It’s allows you to check online accounts locally, including Gmail. I don’t know if it’s power-hungry, but it’s designed as a replacement to Outlook Express and Windows Mail, so I imagine it will have a similar if even smaller power footprint.
Are you sure Gmail notifier is the culprit? My battery life, or atleast the one shown when I mouse over it, seems to waver a lot regardless of activity. Check if that might be happening to you.
Yes I’m sure
I tested it and I didn’t see any noticeable decrease in battery life. Though I can’t really tell what “shortened dramatically” means, but all is well here.
It took expected battery life down to about 1/2 what it was prior to install. Maybe it’s just my setup but I wasn’t prepared to have that, I’ll stick out Outlook Express (old school !)
