Hi
Games that have not been listed already that I have managed to get running on my Samsung NC10 ( 1GB RAM) without the use of tools such as 3D Analyze (http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/3d_analyze/ ) are as follows:
The Thing – runs perfect
Soldiers – Heroes Of World War 2 – runs great although scrolling across the screen is a tad slowbut still very playable
Max Payne – runs great when setting the in game video settings to a lower resolution
Ghost Recon – runs perfect
Anyone tried Stronghold 1 or 2 yet ?
I have just brought a copy of Stronghold2 on ebay so will try it out as the minimal spec requirements are achievable but I may have to use 3D Analyze for this. Will let you know.I will post more as and when I get them installed and running.
Cheers
January 23, 2009 at 4:04 pm #168557ParodyMemberHad some time to play around with the NC10 last night:
Inside DosBox (0.72, windowed, set to 10,000 cycles) both Epic Pinball and Dune II ran great. Knowing how it works on my desktop, anything older should run well also.
Back in XP, Starcraft (w/BW, 1.16) also ran great. (Which you’d expect; Starcraft ran on almost everything when it was originally released.)
More old game reports as time permits! I’ve got plenty of them on here. :)

January 27, 2009 at 5:31 pm #168543BluebirdNC10MemberChampionship Manager 00/01 and Championship Manager 01/02 both work – but then there is nothing too intensive about them apart from picking the right team, the right strategy and the right players – and a lotta luck…lol

Does this tool work? is it any good?January 29, 2009 at 9:44 am #168553hanwellmikeMemberI have loaded succesfully
Aliens V Predator 2 **
Call of Duty **
Half Life
Chessmaster 9000
Quake 3 Arena
Quake 2
Age of Empires 2**
Timeshock PinballAll appear to work well at lowish resolutions but I have not played any of them yet in depth.
The only niggle is that the games marked ** all require the CD to be in the tray to launch the game. I have tried making iso copies to no avail. I have free trialled Game Jackal from Slysoft and this is a reasonable product but this still requires a CD player to be connected so is not a solution.

February 1, 2009 at 11:36 pm #168558ParodyMemberPlayed a bit of Guild Wars this weekend. It wasn’t great (15-20 FPS) but I haven’t had a chance to play with the settings either. The game does run and supports 1024×600.
February 3, 2009 at 1:16 pm #168565Dom01MemberI tried teh Soldiers heroes of WW2 demo and it was way way to slow to be called playable! maybe the full game is better optimised but in my experience this is not the case.
Age of Mythology works great if you want a 3d TRS game and it runs in 1024 X 600
Red Alert 2
Starcraft
Total Annihilation
UT99
Quake 3
Call of DutyCOD and AOM are about as far as you can go with 3d and still claim it to be playable! You have to put COD in 640 X 480 tho, but it still looks nice as it is such a small screen!
February 4, 2009 at 10:23 pm #168570LaptopAcidXperienceMemberPostal 2 Apocalypse Weekend (and one can assume Share The Pain) seems to work fine at 800×600 (nothing higher available) resolution with textures etc set medium to high.
I’ve only installed it and run the game briefly, not really played it but movement is smooth and graphics look good, will report back when I’ve played it properly.
I’m pretty sure it uses the Unreal engine same as COD.February 5, 2009 at 3:14 am #168571stvMemberFreedom Force works great in WinXP SP3. You will need an external CD drive to spin the game CD and the version 1.3 patch found here:

Any chance the first post on this sticky can be edited to account for all of the games listed below it? Someone may have already reported on FF, but it may just be hidden in the 8 pages of responses to this topic and I missed it.

Current job is picking out accesory recommendations and improving that part of the site. Then I want to give the FAQ a good overhaul – I’ve been collecting Q&As but need to type it up!
On the off chance anyone wants to collate the list and PM/email it to me or another mod we’ll update it :D!
February 5, 2009 at 6:06 pm #168544BluebirdNC10Memberthe entire Trainz franchise seems to run happily on the Sammy at the full 1024×600 resolution.
The game will complain about the DirectX graphics but otherwise runs fine.
February 6, 2009 at 4:43 pm #168575TechnodynamicMemberFirst Post. 🙂
As a gamer, it is my duty to post my successes.
Starcraft – installed and upgraded to latest version. No CD fix which is supported by Blizzard. Works very well.
WarCraft 3 – installed and patched to latest version. Latest patch has No CD fix in it. Add this to the shortcut for the game: ricght click short cut, go to properties… in “target, add this at the very end of the line: -opengl You can customeize the resolution so it works well with our widescreens. Works decent, but with many units on the screen will experience some slowdown. You can lower settings for faster framerate.
BattleZone II – installed and set resolution to native screen (1024 x 600) and it runs beautifully at 60 FPS with all settings maxed. This is a good game to get to see some pretty 3D. Game runs native with NO CD needed.
Call of Duty 1 – installed and fixed to run at native res.
Mod edit: Removed suggested source of No Cd software. Sorry!
February 7, 2009 at 2:50 am #168572stvMemberNeverwinter Nights Diamond Edition works great in WinXP SP3. If you update to version 1.69, you will not need to spin the game DVD via external drive to play.
February 8, 2009 at 6:45 pm #168568BletchMemberZuma works fine on the nc10. but runs in a resolution of 800×600 so looks a little stretched. I also recommend using a mouse over track pad.
Also avoid buying from the Popcap Games website where it will cost you £14. Try your local Morrisons where I got mine for a fiver.
