MemberThought it might be handy to have a counter-thread for games that users have tried unsuccessfully.
As well as listing the games, please detail the problem and any steps that you’ve tried (patches/updates etc) or advice that you’ve come across (forums etc). This could be helpful to other users who may wish to try further workarounds.
Please also state (if known) the reason the game doesn’t work (incompatible hardware etc).
I’ll start off with a game I tried to play this afternoon.
Game: Overlord
Problem: Fails to start. No error messages.
Steps Taken: Patched to v1.4 with no change. Checked official forum – game requires a mid-range nVidia or ATI card. Confirmation from other intel graphics users that the game will not run.
Conclusion: Incompatible with intel integrated graphics.

MemberDoesn’t run (yet):
Civilization III: Complete
Problem: Simply won’t launch
Reason: this seems to be some kind of resolution issue with short widescreens. If you google, it seems noone has been able to get CivIII working on 10” netbooks.
I was able to get Civ3 to start up, but only by outputting the display to another LCD from the netbook.
Anyone know any workarounds? I’ve tried everything (i.e., windows compatibility mode, “keepres=1” in .ini, setting resolution launch options in steam/shortcuts, etc).

MemberSo much legacy stuff wants a minimum vertical resolution of 768 pixels that I hope the next gen of netbooks have this as a minimum whether they are 10in or 11in screens.

MemberI was actually able to start the game up while connected to an external LCD monitor (using that monitor as the only display), then switch it back onto the Samsung screen using the Fn key switch. However, portions of the screen are cut out because it’s not tall enough.
so you can sort-of get it to work… as long as you carry around another LCD with you to start it up…
Strange that these legacy games don’t work in anything less than 1024×768, when 800×600 was still a common resolution back then (I guess they assumed that screens were ONLY going to get bigger). To this day, Starcraft only supports 640×480.

MemberIf you switch the NC10’s resolution to 1024×768, it will create a virtual display which should let you load and play the game without the need for an external monitor. However, you will have to scroll to see the part that goes off the bottom. Some games are playable like this, some are not, so give it a try and see if it’s a workable solution. 🙂

MemberI could’t resist it i had to give it a go, DOOM 3 It Starts up and plays but with the frame rate it’s like
watching a slide show, it’s unplayable.I tried it at 640×480 all options on low or off.

[/quote1232207644]As I suggested in your other thread here, it’s likely that the game doesn’t support the integrated Intel graphics card.
If you can share any other info, such as error messages etc, I may be able to look into this further and see if there is a problem which can be fixed.

Goldeneye on Project 64 does not run above 10fps
[/quote1232745841]I think that’s the fault of the emulator… But I could be wrong.
From the Project64 Game FAQ Known issues:

needs a fast system to run at full speed
Frequently Asked Questions (have you read Common Q&A ?)
Why do I get an “Access Violation”?
Why is the game very slow/jerky?
Why do I get an “Access Violation”?
Try not using any cheat codes (disable all codes and reboot the ROM). Make sure framebuffer emulation (video plugin, advanced tab) is set to None. Why is the game very slow/jerky?
Due to the way it is programmed this game has higher than normal system requirements, you will need something closer to a recommended system than a minimum spec. system (see User Manual for details). Disabling or enabling Advanced Block Linking (ROM Settings tab) may help. Adjusting Counter Factor (ROM Settings tab) may also help. Anything you do to improve performance will help (see User Manual). You may prefer to use a different emulator.January 27, 2009 at 11:28 pm #177441berfles

MemberBeyond Good and Evil runs, but not usefully. Everything is very slow and the sound desyncs in the cut scenes. It’s so bad I don’t think it’d be fixable in the settings.
