MemberJust caught the back end of a head to head on the UK’s Gadget show on channel 5 between my two fav bits of techno, the Archos 5 and the NC10.
Going to have to wait until the re-run on Sat morn to see what they said though as I missed most of it.

MemberI find it funny they treat it like a little gadget – when it is a fully fledged, windows XP machine that can do it all to be honest!! They clearly love it, the sammy looks lovely on the show!
That other thing.. no comment, to be honest.

Memberjust to add, that has got to be one of the most pointless head to heads the gadget show has ever done, and they’ve done so corkers in the past.
They are two different devices aimed at two different markets. As jrdtunes has said, the sammy is a PC the Archos isn’t, it’s a PMP with some limited Internet capability but brilliant video, photo and music playback.
I’ve got both and if I was going skiing I’d need to take both, the sammy for editing any picture or video and the Archos to take to the pub to show how crap I am at skiing.

MemberI was surprised when I caught the end of it myself, as Britman says two very different products aimed at two completely different markets. They are both cracking bits of kit in their own right. Although I do not like the non interchangeable battery on the Archos 5 , much prefer being able to carry two batteries at the same time to extend it to 9hr video play on my 604.

[/quote1230051212]To be fair, they are both the sorts of things you might take with you when travelling to watch video and that was the context they were using them in.
In terms of all round performance the NC10 was always going to win as it’s basically a fully fledged PC to would easily win on the web front but the Archos was much more compact and if you were travelling light and only wanted video and music then it might be a better choice. Personally in that case I’d just use my iPhone though, even if the screen is smaller.

MemberI too saw the show. I love both bits of kit – I’m lucky that I have both all be it the older version of the Archos 5. I use them for different functions. Archos for music, videos scarted into back of hotel room TV (I am in alot with my job) & portable photos, wheras I use the NC10 for Internet use. I still like their head to heads – almost pointless but watching Suzy Perry perform with various gadgets just puts a little extra to it….!!
Merry Xmas to all. Am using NC10 unwrapped from santa. No problems so far. Wirelessed at first go – ho ho ho!!
