A web search seems to indicate that this issue is quite common. But, the same web search also mentioned another free product from Macrium: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp .
Several people posted positive comments about the program and the company so I may give it some consideration.

I just registered using the link, and got an immediate 2nd mail with serial number.
It is not possible to download the product directly from Acronis – but a quick Google threw up at least 3 versions out there. PM me if you would like links.

I downloaded and started Acronis … it says I have a 15-day trial and nowhere did it ask me for the serial number…. did anyone else have the same?

The serial number only works with the version of Acronis from Personal Computer World magazine. It’s not officially available to download.
Computer active is also running the same offer…

I didn’t realize you had to get the magazine with the CD. Lucky you folks on the other side of the pond.
For those of us Stateside and those who missed out, DiscWizard from Seagate is really Acronis under the hood without the name or the cost. Available for download for free for use on any disc drive.
