MemberWhich of the two do you prefer? OpenSuse works great out of the box, but fedora supports the new file system ext4!
What do you think?

MemberWhy do we need the new filesystem? 😀 Out of the box is worth a lot more than the filesystem…

ParticipantPersonally I don’t care about out of the box, as long as networking works to allow me to update it to fix any issues. That said I don’t use ext4.

Well everything works except sound switching and some fn controls.
The brightness keys haven’t been fixed yet, which is pretty much the only thing not working after updating. In my post I was more referring to distributions overall, rather than specifically Fedora.

Yes I prefer Fedora over OpenSUSE.However I am biased as I have been using Fedora/Red Hat for quite a long time (Red Hat was the first Linux distribution I used), because of this I’m used to the tools and setup of Fedora systems and I don’t really feel at home on other distributions.
I am also a little opposed to Novell who own OpenSUSE though that’s not really relevant to this thread.
On the NC10 both Fedora and OpenSUSE (Gnome) work well, currently OpenSUSE has the edge as the brightness buttons work correctly and a few things work out of the box, whereas on Fedora it needs to be updated to work.
For this reason if I was looking to choose a Linux distribution and I wasn’t biased I would probably go for OpenSUSE, though Fedora is still a good choice.

MemberI haven’t tried OpenSUSE on the NC10 and am running Fedora on it…it works great. I’m not getting too hung up on the Fn buttons that do not work properly (although using the brightness Fn buttons causes issues for me).
Even though I haven’t used Fedora at all before (I was a long time user of PCLOS and Xubuntu on the desktop), I followed Alfihar’s lead and installed it on the NC10. I’m really liking it. I may be a Fedora follower after this. I’d say give Fedora a try first and see how you like it.
