I love my little Samsung N130. I got it for free with a mobile phone contract and I am about to finish a second bachelors using it. Its my workhorse!
I have upgraded to 2gb of RAM and added an SSD. I use Windows 8.1 and run Office 2013 alongside up to a dozen IE tabs and 3-4 adobe reader windows, all displayed at 1280×1024 on an external monitor. It plods on quite happily for over 12hrs a day and has done for 4-5 years. Despite abusing my battery with the AC adapter I still get about 3hrs of battery life. I get the occasional stutter when scrolling through a pdf or web page laden with adverts but that’s it. It is a very impressive laptop. I feel the construction design is spot on and the product is a little gem of technology.
But the little Atom N270 is holding it back. The screen resolution causes conflict with Windows 8 (though I may try to upgrade it to a 1366×768 screen) and combined with an SSD running at only SATA150 I feel I would like something a little quicker. The lack of HD video playback causes a problem from time to time though I know I could ass a hd pci-e card.
So my question is…
What is the quickest and best equipped Samsung netbook? I like the 10.1inch one I have but realise some are 11 inch.
I am not afraid of installing pci-e cards or upgrading the screen, I just need the best base to continue my Sammy netbook experience.
So, which netbook has the…
quickest cpu and bus speed (cpu is the n130’s biggest problem and so my biggest upgrade need)
max ram capacity (though 2gb is plenty for me)
fastest ata bus (usable… my ICH7-M ata controller is rated at 300 but runs at 150 😐 )
I can live without/upgrade hd playback, hd screen, decent bat life, 3d graphics.
Thanks for your replies!
I don’t believe Samsung make Netbooks any longer.
The last ones were *I think* the ones with the N550/570 Atom dual core CPU, or the models with the N2600 CPU.
They have moved on to Ultrabooks and the like for small PCs.
If you are ‘still’ wanting an Netbook… and a faster netbook too… try finding one of those N5xx series CPU’s in a second hand shop like – Cash convertors or CEX, (you didn’t say if you iz in the UK)…
It is possible that you’d have to change to an Asus EEE PC Seashell netbook too… if available… most of those have the 5xx series CPU’s
Faster – is relative… multithreading MAY make the computer SEEM faster, but the CPU still plods on at 1.66GHz….
