Hi all
This is my first post here – just recently got my NC-10 thanks to the reviews on this site!
I’m currently running Vista on my machine and have just noticed that the fan runs continuously if it’s in ‘normal’ mode, and will shutoff completely if I set it to silent (then come back on if I change back to normal).
Does this sound right to people, or does it sound like a problem?
Cheers.
With the silent mode I would expect the fan to come on occasionally, this mode appears to set the temperature the fan comes on at higher as well as possibly enabling some power saving settings. If you run a game or maybe a processor intensive application the fan should come on.
In normal mode I would expect the fan to switch off at-least some times, however Vista background processes and other applications may be causing the processor to generate enough heat to keep the fan on constantly.
This shouldn’t be a problem.
Ok cheers for that, I’ll have to see what processes I can stop!
Using CPU-Z, running silent mode appears to lock the processor to 800mhz…although this is fine for normal surfing/emailing etc. Shame it doesn’t seem possible to up the fan temp without underclocking…
If you haven’t already, you might want to update your BIOS to the latest version .04CA. Doing this, seemed to help reduce the amount of time my fan spent running:
