MemberI am looking for a slim, portable DVD burner and have the choice locally between the LG GP08LU10 and the LiteOn eSAU208. They seem to spec. out quite closely, and was wondering if there were any other factors, like reliability or support, that I should consider before making a purchase. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
–Ken

MemberWell, I bought the LIteOn drive yesterday. It reads discs with power from just one of the USB ports. For those that care, its burgundy and black, but they make it in white if you want to match it to your white NC10.

MemberI’ve got the white LG without lite scribe and it has never failed on any of my netbooks. Ha! Shame my Sammy’s black…

MemberI’ve just bought the lighton external drive you mention so far its running well, you get nero 7 burning software, lightscribe software, drive stand, and if needed power plug. My drive is the red one a nice colour to go with the white sammy NC10. I got the burner from Microdirect in manchester. cost £46. If you are looking on microdirects website do NOT buy the samsung burner at the same price as the liteon, I did and it does not run on the sammy netbook.

Are you referring to this optical drive?
MicroDirect: Samsung DVD RW S084B/RSBNAs that’s the one I bought from MicroDirect and it’s been working perfectly with my NC10.
EDIT: Odd I can’t get the link to work, its the Black Slimline Samsung drive £49.11 inc vat.

MemberHi Alfihar
Yes thats the one, I do not know why the Samsung drive would not play for me and for some reason I had a mini nightmare trying to load the bundled nero software. Anyhow went back and Microdirect swapped it for the Liteon burner and everything went smoothly.December 30, 2008 at 6:41 pm #177414andydajo
MemberI’ve got the White LG one, £47ish from PCWorld. Matches the White Sammy and runs happily from one USB cable.
