MemberThat looks pretty good.
How is it powered? One thing to check out when buying any peripherals for notebooks is whether our Sammies can power them ok through the USB port. Hopefully someone around here will know whether this is a problem or not? I’ll be testing my kit out over the weekend but I dont have anything uber power hungry.
Would be good to collaborate on our experiences.

[/quote1226860229]I have the white version of this DVD the none Lightscribe version (LG GSA-E50N). It communicates and powers from a single USB port and works fine with the NC10.

MemberThanks for that Martin. I read a post on another forum from someone who had had a prob with their optical drive. I guess some are more power hungry than others or maybe that wasnt even his problem in the end…

MemberI have bought (finally) the LG 8x USB DVD-RW Slim White for 80 Euro (63 BP). That’s was necessary because my NC10 had a hal.dll error. Via a bootable USB (BartPE) I copied the hal.dll but that didn’t solve the problem (I tested the HD with BartPE which was fine).
I was surprised that the Samsung XP CD didn’t have a recovery console (press R) during boot from CD. So, I installed XP again and the Samsung system software from scratch. The LG USB DVD drive worked fine during install of the XP and Samsung software 😉
Unfortunately, I didn’t discover what was the cause of the hal.dll error on my NC10…

MemberI’m thinking about buying an enclosure like this and using an old laptop drive or buying one of these.
Another route — if you’re just looking to install stuff in a pinch — is to use a bare optical drive (e.g. from an old desktop) and connect it using something like this.

[/quote1227792662]With F4 during boot NC10, you can restore XP more convenient then I did.. You even don’t need an USB DVD reader/writer 😉 See Appendix from page 161 of the Samsung User Guide..

[/quote1228053641]Was the NC10 able to use this with only one USB port and no external power?

MemberLooks nice that Samsung drive. Would be nice to get a confirmation on the above question ^^.
It can be got from [red=neweggdvd]newegg here[/red] if you are in the US. Doesn’t seem very available in the UK. I did see it on a 3rd party amazon seller but it was more expensive than overclockers.co.uk.
