MemberThis is not something I have experienced myself, but my wife and I both have black NC10s and whenever hers is plugged into the mains she complains about shocks coming through the silver trim around the edge of the case. When unplugged she has no problems – I can’t feel it myself, and she doesn’t have any problem when she uses mine.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this, or had any suggestions about what to try
Cheers!

MemberThats strange!
I was about to say something about static discharge but you own a second NC10 without the mentioned problems.
Maybe the cord of the A/C is damaged (internally broken?) and leaks electricity to the case?
I would replace the whole unit. Companies usually listen to Customers when they are complaining about Electricity Risks.

MemberTry your power supply on her sammy, if the problem is still there then it’s a faulty netbook, if it disappears it’s a faulty power supply. Try her power supply on your sammy and see if the fault occurs there, that’ll confirm a faulty unit.

MemberPlease keep us informed on the conclusions with this problem.
I have checked my NC10 and the trim is electrically connected to the common ‘earth’ side of the computer (USB, Audo In Out shields etc.)
From experience some people are very susceptible to static or induced voltages. I very much doubt if it is a fault, as the trim is connected to common it will not be a computer fault. For safety sake by all means swap Power Units between machines to eliminate the chance of a fault there.
Also try your NC10 in the exact same place that your wife uses hers, same chair etc. and of course get her to feel for the tingles, I won’t call them shocks, if it was a shock you would feel it too.Are there any peripherals or cables plugged in? Charges could be induced via these or they may be connected to mains earth. Any induced charges should be safe and unavoidable providing the domestic mains wiring is OK.
71notout jests but it could be in the right direction, to experience the same tingles you may have to wear her clothes:-)

But seriously, electricity is something you don’t want to take chances with. I think an email to Samsung support would be a good call in this instance. Let the experts deal with it.

MemberThanks for the suggestions – I’ll experiment with a different power supply later on and get on to Samsung if the problem sticks around.
I’ll let you know how I get on

Memberi have this. its not the trim its the vga port. there is a test voltage sent out, thats how it knows when theres a monitor connected. it is only noticeable on sensitive skin ( legs for me when i have shorts on )

^^ It is plastic, The shock is coming from the VGA port and USB when you touch both together with sensitive skin you get a very mild shock as a circuit is created.

MemberInteresting, the trim looks very metallic compared to the hinges for instance. I don’t want to scratch with a probe to ensure contact so again I tried just on the edges of the cut outs and get a very low resistance, there could be a conductive coating.
The contacts on the VGA socket are recessed but given a bit of sweat and a few silver nanos?
I still go for static, whether it is the person charged and finding a discharge path or the Power Unit giving a bit of induced static and discharging to the person.

MemberWell I’ve tried my best, I’ve stuck my fingers in all the NC10’s USB and VGA sockets, trying various combinations, I’ve even run my tongue down the silver strip, in an attempt to electrocute myself but nothing, do I need to update my drivers?
