So i got my Girlfriend a extra NC10 mainly because she hijacked mine all the time but there is a weird problem you guys might to know about:
Since she is not a really techy person i wanted to use the original (and somewhat quiet) windows firewall instead of a 3rd party tool that pops up every 5 minutes.
She moves between our flat and her sister’s almost daily and i secured both WLAN networks by tweaking alot of Router settings.
So far so good… one of the tweaks involves disabling DHCP on the routers and this is where Easy Network Manager comes into play.
I want to use the Manager to give her an easy way to switch between different WLAN network settings including IP Adress, Gateway and Printer setup.
All of this works quite well with the Manager but everytime i tried to switch the “Zone” the Manager disabled the Windows Firewall… anyone here know how to fix this?
Sidenote: I know that there are way better Firewalls included into the Routers but i also created a “Public Zone” with automatic IP settings to utilize HotSpots but this setting disables the firewall aswell.
Any Ideas?

February 4, 2009 at 4:59 pm #182327TCMuffinMemberI use Norton Internet Security 2009 and have disabled the Windows Firewall. so I can’t comment – sorry 🙁
February 4, 2009 at 9:16 pm #182329nacy333MemberI’m having the same problem as well. I take my laptop with me to many locations, some which require a manual IP configuration, some dhcp.
I’ve noticed however, that when it disables the Firewall and I go to Control Panel >> Firewall, the Firewall will show as enabled.
It seems that I have to go through the Security Center icon in the taskbar in order to make the warning disappear.
February 4, 2009 at 9:36 pm #182331ParodyMemberYeah, I’m just using Zero Config so I don’t know what to tell you. You’d think there would be an option somewhere in Easy Network Manager that’s telling it to turn off the Windows Firewall.
Good luck! :(

Im using Wireless Zero Config. But, why easy network manager? I think its just a piece of crap. WZC has a defaut network function. With that function both networks are saved (so no need for typing in passwords) and windows automatically connects when one of the default networks are in range. So my advice is to get rid of samsungs network app.
February 10, 2009 at 10:11 am #182328TCMuffinMemberI agree – I don’t use any of Samsung’s applications
February 10, 2009 at 10:25 am #182325RsaeireMemberI agree with the above two posts. The only Samsung application I installed was the “Easy Display Manager” so I can increase/decrease the brightness and increase/decrease the sound via the FN keys.
February 10, 2009 at 1:12 pm #182334Don_AudioMemberYeah, i just did a clean install of WinXP so i’ll give the alternatives a go.
As said, i dont need all this Stuff on my NC10 which i configure manually anyway, its for my Girlfriend’s so as long as it works without to many notification pop-ups it’ll be ok.
Thanks for the advice.

[/quote1234271871]Yeah but as said, i dont care about the networks and passwords. Networks and passwords are not the issue here.
The Routers i’m talking about are running without DHCP in different IP ranges so the program i need has to change the IP Adress, Gateway and DNS Servers.
As far as i know Wireless Zero Configuration is able to connect to networks and store the passwords for later use but its not able to automatically switch between different Network IP configurations depending on what network you are connected to….
Or am i missing something here?

[/quote1234300401]Completely agree here. The answer of not using the Easy Network Manager is not the solution.
I use my NC10 in a variety of networks, some of which require manually configured IP Addresses, DNS Servers, Default Gateways, etc.. Using the Easy Network Manager works much better at quickly switching my network settings (not to mention default printer) than it is to have to manually change network settings and printers (most of which I don’t remember).
The only problem I have currently, is the constant disabling of the Windows Firewall when switching to locations, so if there is someone with a solution for me to still use Easy Network Manager without it disabling my Firewall, I would love to hear it.
May 18, 2009 at 8:35 am #182336superflushMemberI just got my NC10, but I started using Easy Network Manager because it seemed like a good way to keep a static IP for uTorrent. But I have been having the problem of Windows Firewall being disabled when I “move” into different settings.
