Hi, smart guys!
Without changing operating systems (I have Windows XP on my main computer and on my NC10), what’s the easiest way to share files around the house? If my wife is using my Toshiba downstairs and I’m on my Sammy upstairs, can I easily access files on the Toshiba? In other words, not just bluetooth. Do I need to buy some software like PC at Home or can I just do this with our current operating systems?
Thanks in advance for not using big words!
Honestly the best information for the novice is contained at this URL: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/default.mspx
This guide gives your all the major decisions on any additional hardware and the nuts and bolts about configuring XP for sharing, etc.
Feel free to come back with any specific questions after your review and basic education at the above URL.
I have set up a wireless home network just following the instructions in the network wizard, I have a vista laptop, xp laptop and my NC10 sll connected together and I have used it to install office 2007 onto the NC10 by sharing the dvd drive on the vista laptop. It really wasnt that difficult, I am by no means an expert pc user.
OK, I dug down to the section on sharing files (I could already do everything else) if anyone else is interested, here’s the most relevant pages, I think:
