MemberDo you guys like to keep your NC10’s desktop clean of icons, or do you have a cluttered look? When I get my netbook, I won’t want anything on the desktop apart from the bin! π

MemberWell I always set of with the intention of keeping the desktop clean but nearly always end up wit all sorts on it then tidy it up only to repeat the process π

ParticipantOn most of my computers I have nothing on the desktop, however on the NC10 I’m keeping the Computer, Home and Bin icons on the desktop, and any external storage devices I plug in.
I very rarely use the desktop for anything, all my downloads go to the Downloads folder and anything I’m working on tends to get stored in a sub-folder of Documents.

MemberI prefer a clean desktop, with Win 7 you can pin programs to the taskbar so there’s no need for icons on the desktop.

MemberI much prefer a clean desktop, though in both Vista and 7 I use the sidebar to monitor CPU, RAM, and disk usage.

MemberI only have the Recycle Bin on my desktop – it is deliberately left bare so I can enjoy the desktop pic π

MemberI’m sammy-ed up.
Bought a white one yesterday.. and am tentatively working through all the suggested tweaks.
I added the rocket dock but just didnt get on with it.. doubtless its me… but i was wondering why you think its “better” than adding the icons to the toolbar along the bottom of the screen… the ultimate in a tdiy desktop π
Looking forward to learning lots.
Next stop.. ram and a case… any suggestions on those two please ?

MemberIn an image editing package (e.g. the Gimp) resize the image you wish to use as an avatar to 100 pixels x 100 pixels π

Memberyeah e107 doesn’t seem to handle oversized avartar images that well. The admin area does pick them out but it just gives the option to delete them. I might have a look at forcing them to a certain size.
Sorry to go OT. As you were!

MemberI’m back with a new picture.
to say i’ve had computer issues over the past few days would be an understatement…. 4 system restores in 4 days.. not with my new Sammy but my desktop. I think its having a tantrum because of the new, young, agile competition of Sammy.. its well put out.
so, given that i didn’t want to download any software to resize the other image but thanks for the reply – the thought of another issue is making me feel a bit sick π I don’t want to look at another product key code, updating your system or please restart your computer notice ever, ever again.
i’m going to go back to the suggeted tweaks given on the site, once my nerves are back to normal, its a fantastic resource for a new owner. makes such a difference for an IT dunce.
thanks from us all..

MemberI have my desktop completely devoid of any files/folders and use Rocket dock. Rocket dock and the taskbar are set to auto-hide, as I like my viewing area as clean as possible.
