MemberOn my Asus 900 I have the option for a 1024 x 768 resolution which is compressed to fit onto the 1024 x 600 display. Is this possible with the NC10? I have an old emulator program which needs that resolution otherwise part of the image is not displayable.

MemberIf you go to “Display Properties”->Advanced->Monitor then under “Monitor Settings” there’s a box labelled “Hide modes that this monitor cannot display”. That box should be checked. Uncheck it.
Now you can go back to “Display Properties” and select any resolution you like from the resolution slider.
Your screen will not be squashed. Instead the desktop will be larger than the screen. By moving the mouse off the bottom, you will cause the screen to scroll.
I don’t know if it’s possible to have the screen squashed. Probably not.

MemberThanks, I’ll take a look, and it might help with some issues. The other day I was installing software that came with an LG DVD writer. The Nero part of the install at on point brings up a window relating to some online option, but the button to cancel the window is off screen. That’s the type of problem a 1024 x 600 resolution can lead to.
I really want the option for a compressed screen though, the Asus has the option within the Intel driver/utility, I don’t think it’s special to Asus.

MemberI think that’s the utility you’re referring to. It provides a screen scaling option but at signifcantly reduced performance. Probably fine for installation programs and such.

MemberIf the problem is just about running the emulator can’t you run it in 800×600?

[/quote1236023258]Not unless it somehow integrates with the Intel utility, the option appears when the Intel icon in the system tray is used.
For installation purposes I realised that connecting a monitor allow me to use 1024×768 (or better if the monitor/laptop supports it).
Thanks for looking though, I will take a look at AsTray Plus

[/quote1236023547]I tried setting the resolution to 800×600 and the emulator was just as bad, the emulator itself has no options for a 1024×600 display. Thanks anyway.

MemberDownscaling switcher works fine on my NC10, it has enabled me to use two video editing programs which would not lad at normal resolution. The programs appear full screen without the need to scroll. It is better to disable downscaling switcher after use before turning off the computer as sometimes it seem to reset the screen resolution to 1024 X 768 when the computer is rebooted. This is not really a problem as it is easy to reset using Intel(R). Here is a forum address which gives a German website for the download http://forums.msiwind.net/windows/downscaling-switcher-t2017.html?sid=3c0ff15812fc99ebf2af13c3a2a36565

[/quote1238573769]Thanx for the info but – when I do that, I get a warning message saying it may damage the hardware. Is this risky ?
