I’ve always wondered, if I do start menu-> shut down or hibernate, then immediately close the lid without waiting for it, is this detrimental in any way? I often hear people mention shut down times which is why I ask: if you close the lid then shut down times are irrelevant.
if you chose the computer to do nothing when the lid is closed, I don’t think that it would do anything that would interfere with the shutdown process.
Maybe if you set “close lid” movement as sleep, it might confuse the system when done right after you shut it down by clicking start–> shutdown.
For me, it didn’t do anything because I set it up so that nothing would happen when the lid is closed.

I will say that I use sleep for a closed thread. It still shuts down or hibernates however.
I have the netbook standby when lid is closed.
If I click shutdown and then close the lid, the netbook always shuts down rather than go into standby.
The only relevance to shut down times could be if you were to put the NC10 in a case once closed. ie long shut down times may cause it to overheat in a confined space.
