Any advice? It was an energy drink and it feels very sticky underneath. I took the keyboard off and cleaned underneath but it is sticky under the keys between the key and the key back board..

February 15, 2009 at 10:08 pm #183843TruneMemberonly time u tend to be able to sort it out is if you act very quickly.
Normally your doomed either way… just hope it didnt seap through the keyboard into the laptop itself.
We used to take the keyboard out just and wash it up in soapy water, and soak it for a bit. Then rinse well with plain water, and then put in a warm place to dry thoroughly. It worked with some, but not with others… they had gone to far.
Be sure to write down any part numbers before washing it up tho, as you may find these wash off.February 15, 2009 at 10:40 pm #183845callsignapolloMemberWashed a keyboard? lol didn’t know you could..
The NC10 keyboard itself looked fairly well sealed so would washing the keyboard itself pose any threat? ie. removing it first of course
February 15, 2009 at 10:48 pm #183836AlfiharParticipantThat energy drink will likely do two things depends on how bad the spill was, it may cause short circuits in the keyboard due to chemicals in the drink conducting electricity, this may only start to happen after it has dried. And the chemicals in the drink may eat away at the keyboards traces and stop some/all keys from working.
If you are going to wash it, distilled water is a good idea.

April 17, 2009 at 4:27 am #183846bomerMemberWhen I spilt tea on mine, I removed the keyboard (there’s a thread on it somewhere in the mods section), rinsed it in water for a minute, shook it dry and left it to dry for about 5-6 days. It worked before that, but short circuited pretty bad, to the point of unusability. It slowly returned to working order, give it a while. If anyone’s fully breaks, I have a working german keyboard (minus a few keys) if anyone wants to but it. Cost me $100 AUSD ($60 US or so), I’d be happy to make $50AUSD off it, I only took 4 keys off it.
