I’ve noticed is that when I click on a webpage like the New York Times, after the webpage comes up, it takes about 20 seconds before I can click in their search box (top left of page) and be able to type. The page displays in like 1 second, but it takes 20 seconds for me to be able to click in that box and type. Does anyone notice any problems like that? And does anyone have a clue why this might be happening? I did install norton internet security 2009 on it, so maybe it is causing that. Does anyone have that problem with McAfee security software?
Thanks in advance for any answers.January 28, 2009 at 7:49 pm #181629ParodyMemberHave you tried going to the same site(s) in a different browser?
Does it happen every time you go to the same site in a session, or is it worse the first time you go there?
(FWIW, I haven’t noticed anything like what you’re describing that’s specific to the NC10. Some sites cause pauses because they’re firing up Java or whatever, but that happens no matter which computer and browser I’m using. Also, I’m not using any link checking or other “safe surfing” type of software.)

If it is, take a look at the processes tab to see which program is taking all the cycles. I know previous versions of Norton are resource hogs so that may be your problem.

I doubt it.Unlike it’s predecessors, Norton IS 2009 has a minimal effect on performance, as this review in PCPro describes. I have NIS 2009 installed and it doesn’t seem to have affected the performance of my NC10.
January 28, 2009 at 10:57 pm #181633wsttMemberI do have Norton Internet Security 2009 and the CPU usage doesn’t get over 60% when the page loads. I did check and the same thing happens on an older laptop I have but that one also has NIS, but NIS2008. Maybe it’s a flash or java thing, but I have no way of knowing.
On the New York Times website, does anyone else have the same 20 second pause before you can click in their search window (top right of page) , after the 1 second it takes the page to load? It happens on some other pages, but that one is the one that comes to mind.
I guess it’s not NC10 specific but I’m trying to figure out if it’s my Norton Internet Security, a slower laptop problem, or a flash or java problem. Thanks.
January 29, 2009 at 7:25 pm #181630ParodyMemberUsing IE6 here at work, I can click and type in to the search box at nytimes.com right away, before it finishes loading everything. This search box appears just below the NYTimes banner on the left. On an article page, there’s one at the top right which I can also click into right away. Both pages I tried have quite a bit of Flash and/or Flash video.
Hope this helps.
January 29, 2009 at 9:01 pm #181632CarpetboyMemberI had issues with a few sites as well, I have set the powermanagment of the wifi card to “off” and those delays are gone now. I don’t use any antivirus at all, so in my case that could not be the problem. I think in your case it’s worth a try.

Try uninstalling Norton and see if that helps, you can always install it again.January 29, 2009 at 11:19 pm #181628BlueboyMemberI’ve seen similar symptoms when the browser is waiting for the ads to load. It can be very frustrating when the main page has loaded, but there is a delay at adclick, or doubleclick. Look at the bottom (status) line of the browser and it will show what it is trying to load. If it is an ancillary add site, try something like adblocker add-in (assuming you are using FF).
January 30, 2009 at 11:15 am #181625RsaeireMemberIt may be a specific option in Norton that requires certain components of the page to be scanned for potential threats, thus resulting in the delay you are experiencing.
I wouldn’t go and uninstall Norton firstly, I would attempt to either stop all its services within the program options and if that does not work, stop it from opening on startup and restart your NC10, ensure no Norton components are running and test the site again.
