I am currently in the market for both a desktop and an NC10. My current desktop is over 4 years old and creaking at the seams. I have two old laptops, but both are seriously underpowered.
The replacement for my laptops is sorted – I will get an NC10. However, I am still not sure what desktop to get.
I don’t play games much, so want it mainly for powerpoint and other office uses. I also want one suitable for a lounge. I have been looking at the HP Pavilion slimline series (availalbe at John Lewis). Has anyone got one of these?

[/quote1227448123]Yes, this is the range. The one in John Lewis has blueray and the media drive and is priced at £550. I think it comes with 4g of ram and has an AMD 9100e processorI want something small and quiet and also fairly future proof.

But if style is important then the good looking ones tend to be a little more pricey.
But these look cool for a living room PC: http://www.dell.com/hybrid
They sell them in [red=pcworld]PC world[/red]

Minimal 2gb ram, just for vista.
Dual Core cpu. Dual core is the standard now, and well, its just a speed boost.
Video card, at least capable for running VIsta’s Aero interface.November 25, 2008 at 7:55 pm #170816TheRingMemberAll our pcs at work are hp and got to say they are reliable and fats, the above range is well reviewed, tbh the bluray drive is a bonus but bear in mind watching a film on it wont be wuiet as drives make a racket when they play these discs. Do you get the additional warranty with john lewis if so its a bargain.
The hybrid is a good recomendation but uses laptop parts. if you do not plan to upgrade then its a very good alternative and a lot more stylish than the hp. I considered one myself but in the end built my own quad core unit.
