I just purchased an NC10 off Newegg. Needed it before I left for Thanksgiving, so I couldn’t take advantage of the Live Cashback.
But, I have a question I’ve not seen addressed before. Can the NC10 boot off an SD card? I’d like to load Ubuntu up on a 16gb SDHC I have sitting around, as I don’t like dualbooting off a single harddrive.
The EEE 701 I used to have could do this, but most notebooks I’ve run into can’t.
Incidentally, the name length sucks. I can’t use the same NecessaryEvil moniker I’ve had for 8 years. But, oh well.
just a question are you looking to install the ubuntu to the sdcard and have the device give you dual boot options or are you looking to boot into a live cd image on the sd card
Ideally, disable the onboard SATA through the BIOS, install Linux onto the SD via my USB BRDVDDL. If I can’t disable, simply changing the boot order as needed.
Yeah, it’s a lot more work, but I’d prefer to keep my operating systems on separate media.
I can’t find nothing similar since now on my NC10. I hope that they’ll enable it on next bios’s firmware release…. Does anyone successfully booted from a Linux Live distro directly on SD card?
