I was reading different reviews on the internet about the NC10 and learned that the air vents are on the bottom of the unit. Now that raises a question for me: can I put the little computer on my lap if I am lying down in bed or do I need to have a solid surface under it so it won’t overheat? My old laptop is like a furnace and absolutely cannot be placed on anything that has no solid surface or the motherboard will burn up! I sure hope I can put the NC10 on my lap, as that is one of the reasons I switched from laptop to netbook, for the sake of comfort and wanting something I can use ‘anywhere’ without having to make special considerations for it.
Do any of you use it just on your lap or in bed? If so, does it get hot?
Again, thank you so much for your help. I absolutely can’t wait two more days for my little Sammy to arrive. I feel like I am awaiting the arrival of a baby!! (Am I too nutty about this, or what)? (:-o
there are vents on the bottom, but the actual cpu fan blasts out of the left side of the unit.
doesnt seem like it will get anywhere near hot enough to worry about though.
I have never felt that it is too hot to handle. These things are pretty cool and quiet!
Blokes might want to be a bit careful though 😉
*raises eyebrow*
It all depends on whre the inlet is. As I rest mine on the coffee table I have never investigeted,
there are lots of inlet grilles on the bottom and the chances of you covering them ALL enough to suffocate the cooling are slim.
It’s sitting on my lap as I type this. It’s as warm as the touchpad, no warmer than that.
