I have a NC10 which unfortunately was sat upon and the screen damaged. The screen shows a random fixed pattern and is not repairable. I don’t have a problem with buying another and installing it, but I’m concerned that the problem is more severe. When I connect to an external monitor there is no image(I used the Fn key to attempt to switch displays). I removed the damaged display, still with no signal on the external monitor. Another NC10 worked fine with the external monitor. Is there any reason the external monitor should not work with a screen-less NC10? I don’t think the body was damaged in any way, only the screen portion. Otherwise I believe its working(can be seen on the LAN)
maybe it’s ur gpu?
Hmm that’s weird. Never seen such a behaviour on a notebook so my guess is that there is indeed more damaged than you (and me tbh) have expected.
my suggestion was to ensure that the second display was switched on ie in Windows display properties but it looks like you have already considered that.
So the screen is completely dead? If that is the case then would the NC10 still communicate with it? If the NC10 can’t detect the screen i’m not sure if using the FN F4 combo would work at all. Do you hear the click when you press the Fn button?
so hold on, does FN F4 switch the “primary display” to the external monitor? Is that different to setting up a secondary display in Windows Display properties. Although I guess with no screen it will be impossible to use the Display Properties screen.
I figured it out. I thought I was logged in the the computer(obviously couldn’t tell without the screen). Restarting and blindly entering the password got me back into XP, so that the Fn key now worked(no function keys work at the log in screen). So now I just have to find the replacement screen. How does everyone feel about glossy or touchscreen variants?
