MemberWelcome to the forum Mr.Ring.
Nice to have a proper hardcore techie around – opening up is beyond my technical knowledge! Although internal 3G would definitely be on my wishlist.
Im looking out for a good UK mobile broadband deal right now. Id like to pay about £5 a month for 1gb usage, ive seen offers for that but no such deals out there right now 🙁

MemberI am also interested in the 3G thing. How would it work? I have not received my NC10 yet so could you guys confir where it comes with a 3G slot as some pics suggesteted?

MemberThere is a “dissection” video on youtube that shows an internal slot. Or maybe it’s a space for a slot. I think a 3G version is already confirmed for next year.

My big concern is that they’ll call it the NC11 thus rendering the name of this site redundant! At the same time I want to keep it specific to this netbook so its a dilemma lol ;)!

Membersamsung nc-series 😛 that could be a good name. It is a bit less specific than nc10 in case there are others following… 😀
Although I would say it is a bit to early to think about new releases 😀November 17, 2008 at 6:48 pm #169302TheRing
MemberTecie me lol i just love tinkering and well theres a 50/50 chance ill wreck me device (accidental damage claim on the insurance in that case)There is a blanked sim card slot and an internal pcie slot, there is a 3g modem which has inbuilt sim card slot which would be easier but cost about 100 pounds so unless i find a cheap one that will be a noshow.
Im getting 3gb for a fiver on the three network but have a phone with them, i do know for uk based peeps that if you have bt broadband option 2 3 or 4 then beginning of next year as part of your deal you get a free usb modem with 1gb included for no extra cost with network being supplied by vodafone (7.2mbps max)

MemberHi the ring, how do you find the three mobile net thing – does it work well, any pitfalls?
I also have a couple of phones with them on contract and they keep offering it to me for half the standard price. The cheapest one might be of use when I am on the road in addition to the home net connection for my main online access but only if it works.

MemberIt varies really, i upgraded the huwaei e220 modem with three aus firmware to sync at 7.2meg although three only operates at 2.8. Iplayer works ok depending on where you are. at home in the rural area its ok in london (or i guess most major cities) i get a good solid connection.
As an adhoc connection for emails or a bit of telewatching its good, as for main broadband never not unless you live right under the transmitter
