ParticipantI just went to the Samsung FAQ today. Guess what–the “no plans for the black model in the US” has now become “We will have the black model available in the US by late Dec 2008 or early January 2009”.
Jerks. If I had known it would have been that soon, I might have waited and gotten the black over the white. Oh well. Finding out the black was glossy and not matte put me off a little anyway.
“Currently, the NC10 is only available in blue and white. A black NC10 is available for purchase in other countries, but not in the U.S. There are plans to release a black NC10 in the US. A black NC10 is estimated to be available near the end of December 2008 or early January 2009.”

MemberGood spot. I still can’t understand why they ever delayed it in the first place.

ParticipantI don’t understand it either. I would think the white and black should have been launch and the blue later. Or even if was delayed, say there launching it, rather than playing the game of “no release plans”.

MemberIt is likely that Samsung didn’t plan to release a black one until it sees the demand for it.

MemberHi, all.
I just called Samsung USA and asked for more information about the upcoming release of the black NC10. The guy was at first VERY hesitant to talk about it and stressed that the FAQ response (thanks, TeutonJon!) was only tentative. I dug as much as I could and he basically seemed to be hinting as much as he could that yes it would be released but it would take longer than stated in the FAQ. I also asked about whether it might contain any improvements, such as the larger touchpad and he seemed to hint that this was indeed “probable.”
Obviously, nothing definitive from this exchange so take it with a large grain of salt. Christmas may be a little late for me this year.

ParticipantI would be surprised if they would release a minor change to the NC10 for just the US market. Unless they are going the Asus route, I would have to imagine it would be a few month-0.5 year or more for such a revision (like a whole NC10 v2). And I doubt it would be just for releasing the new color. I would more like bet they were told not to talk about it because it could tank US sales before Christmas if people knew the black one was coming out just after Christmas.

[/quote1229787673]Obviously, he did not say anything definitive, but he certainly did NOT say or even imply that the “probable” improved touchpad would be limited to the US market or limited to the black model. The main gist of what he was saying was NOT to expect anything for a while. I don’t think he had special inside information, but was specifically referring to prior Samsung announcements before there was real available stock for purchase.December 20, 2008 at 8:44 pm #175961TeutonJon78
ParticipantI did see those pics of the larger trackpad at Blogeee though. That could be what he was mentioning and it wouldn’t surprise me if that was part of what was intended for the NC11. Also, if Vista is included, then the 1GB ram limit for WXP OLPC goes out the window.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see the NC11 with some form of Vista, the bigger trackpad, and 2 GB.

MemberSammy wouldn’t qualify for WXP OLPC anyways as she has a 160Gb HDD. Max size for qualification is 80Gb
So theres no resaon why Samsung couldn’t supply 2Gb as standard with XP

[/quote1229868707]Well, the Blogee pics were definitely what I was referring to so it’s not like he brought it up independently. So far all of the “pics” of the NC11 have not included the improved trackpad but they’re probably just pics of an NC10. We’ll know more at CES. Samsung is supposed to have new netbooks on the market by April.December 21, 2008 at 10:55 pm #175962TeutonJon78

[/quote1229900036]They must be allowed my MS because the key on the bottom of my NC10 definitely says ULCPC with the windows key (ultra low cost PC).
Of course, they’ve already backed off the definition of ULC once, so they might have done it again. The Wind and I think the Lenovo have 160 GB hard drives, so that must be allowed now, but not 2 GB RAM.

Memberthank you.
I just signed up to be notified. I doubt this will be sold out as fast as people think. I’ve searched online for weeks and there are plenty of nc10’s on multiple sites. However, I almost bought the Blue one this morning due to I need this hopefully before the start of the next semester.
I have bookmarked that site, now I’m off to locate more of these commercial sites with the early ups.
