MemberI have a Saracen Ikon full suspension mountain bike which was originally a 21-speed affair.
Unfortunately today just as I left work, my rear derailleur decided to snap leaving half the bolt in the rear mech hanger.
So what have I got now?
Well, still a Saracen Ikon but a single speed Saracen Ikon which needs a bit of work to make it a true single speeder (I’ve just removed the cabling for the front and rear gears, and found the best combination of front and rear gear cog selection along with shortening the chain.
Apparently I will need a proper tensioner and single speed cogs.
How about you guys?
Any Sammy Cyclists here?
Oh, forgot to say, one mod I will make is to spray the bike either Black (to match my Sammy) or Lime Green…gotta stand out somehow…lol

MemberGood Topic since it is around 4 degrees here and ice and snow cover the ground!
I am fairly active cycling when it is warm enough.
I have a Kona Hei Hei Hardtail Ti Bike and I am building a Titus Racer-X Full Suspension for next season.
My real baby though is a LightSpeed Vortex Road Bike with custom geometry for my Monkey Like Stature.
I found the frame used while on a job in South Florida a few years ago and it is an almost perfect fit for my long arms and legs.
There is really nothing like riding Ti especially 6/4 Ti.
I never would have bought a brand new one.Anyway I try to ride when working out of state during the winter here and I was in South Florida last week and a few weeks before that and got in as much saddle time as I could.
Winter Sucks! for cyclists .

MemberI have a specialised rock hopper. I spent the better part of £1000 on it when I was living with my parents and had lots of cash (full time graduate job and no rent or bills to pay – happy days!)
I have ridden it 4 times. It has sat in my shed for about 8 years now and is very out of shape. Unfortunately it is unridable in current condition. I hope to move a bit further into Surrey in the next couple of years (post house price crash!) and will take it to the professionals to get fixed up.
Disc brakes and shocks are great but I don’t have a clue how to maintain them!

MemberI’ve kinda bitten the bullet now and have just picked up a hardtail frame complete with non-suspension forks – doesn’t have anything else – no brakes, wheels, handlebars, cables, derailleurs – nothing.
Gonna use it as a base for a custom single geared mountain bike. May recycle some components such as bottom bracket, handlebars, cables, brakes and wheels from my Saracen.

Try Halfords for their Bike Care plan – cost £15 a year with free installation and labour, the only thing you gotta pay are for parts. My local branch won’t even charge me for parts bought from other bike shops even though they should…..January 29, 2009 at 7:42 pm #181717avservice
MemberI would imagine a decent mechanic could get the broken bolt out and just slap a new rear on and you will be back in business?

MemberI have a Radius Hornet II (it’s a recumbent bicicle made in Germany). I use it as my main (and only) vehicle. It’s a little more violet than blue, but I can carry my blue NC10 on it, thanks to a beautifull pair of Ortlieb bags 😀

actually got to order a new rear mech hanger anyway cos mine was nearly dead anyway – part of it was snapped.little tip – if your bike has got a separate mech hanger on the back, do not assume the one on there is the correct one as i found that problem with mine. Only found the right one after giving Saracen a tinkle on the phone and them pointing me to the BETD website – which incidentally is one Halfords use for their spares…

MemberGood thread!
I have a 2004 Kona Stuff. Cost a lot of money for me at the time but I can safely say I have ridden it A LOT!
Moved further out of Reading town centre a few months ago and now get the train in to work 🙁 Boy do I miss riding to work! I am not so far out that I can’t bike it but I am too far out to want to bike it in the cold! Roll on the summer!
TBH I am a bit older now and don’t use it for what it was made for (jumping off things) any more! Still I love the riding stance even if I can’t go fast on it no matter how hard I peddle 😉

MemberHi I’m new to the forum and just finding my way round.
I have an Overbury’s Wildcat, I’ve had it for …must be around 15 years now…it started off with no suspension….in the days before people had suspension. I’ve since had sus. forks fitted and a spring saddle. It’s old and still had a lot of the original bits but I love it. It has a cro-moly frame which is very comfy (aluminium frames weren’t around then).
I also have an entry level Trek 3700 hard tail and a rust bucket extemely old Pegeout Ranger which I’m currently using to ride to work at the local uni. (theif magnet not).
I cycle nearly every Saturday, mostly off road, not as many miles as I did when younger but usually around 10 miles, rising to 15 or 20 in peak season. In the winter when it was freezing I was just doing 5 miles but still went.
