MemberHey all,
Thank you to all of the posters and moderators in this forum. I have been reading this forum ever since I purchased an NC10 about a month ago. I love it, but recently a worrisome problem has started. I’ve emailed Samsung about it, but wanted to post here and see if anyone might have a solution or suggestions that wouldn’t require shipping my beloved netbook back to Samsung.
Here’s the problem:
I was using the computer on battery power with a nearly full charge (left overnight) and all of a sudden it shuts down with no warning and will not reboot. I removed the battery and re-inserted it and the “charging” LED went briefly to orange and then back to green and still wouldn’t boot.
After plugging the computer in, it booted up, but completely froze a few seconds after reaching the XP desktop and I had to hard-reboot. I rebooted again and everything seemed to be fine except the battery isn’t recognized by Windows or the Samsung battery manager (both say 0%/not present, even though Iave confirmed the battery is firmly and correctly seated). The computer appears to work fine when plugged in now, but the battery is still out. I left it plugged in and off last night and te battery was still at 0% and wouldn’t boot this morning.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going wrong or any way I could go about figuring out what might have happened? I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong spot, didn’t really see a “problems” or “troubleshooting” section.
Thanks for your time.

MemberSounds like your battery has failed / is failing. You’ve done the right thing by contacting Samsung but I would also talk to your retailer if it’s only a month old

MemberI agree. Sounds likely to be a faulty battery.
Let us all know how you get on. Resolution details are always useful on forums.

MemberJust a quick update on how things are going:
Emailed Samsung tech support late Thursday (Jan 22nd) evening detailing the problem and the steps I had taken to resolve it. Got an email from tech support mid-day on Friday (Jan 23rd) suggesting that I recalibrate the SMART battery. Unfortunately, this requires the AC adapter to be unplugged and the computer won’t boot without the AC adapter. The email also said that if that didn’t work to email back with my address and they would send me a new batter free of charge. Emailed back Friday afternoon asking for the replacement and haven’t heard back yet (but it is the weekend).
All in all, pretty good response time so far. Tech support is always a bit iffy, but been impressed so far.

MemberIf you do get a replacement then you have a spare one. In that case try the F4 button to restore Sammy completely with it standard settings. Some months ago I had a similar problem with a regular laptop from HP. Ordered a new battery and this had the same problem. After experimenting a little it seemed to be a windows update driver that killed the battery managment. I did a complete reinstall of win xp and after that the battery management worked as expected. Btw the first battery… was actually at the end of his lifecycle as it turned out 🙂

MemberHi Adam – I have exactly the same symptoms. Could you give me the contact details for Samsung that you used? Did you get a replacement and did it work?
