Sam
MemberHi,
I’m trying to record audio from an avi file playing in VLC using Audacity, however with no luck so far.Audacity prefs have the playback and recording device set to Realtek HD Audio, however no signal is recognised when I click the record button.
Has anyone else got this working? Or is there a better way of doing what I’m attempting to do?
Thanks,
Sam.January 18, 2009 at 9:52 pm #180362January 18, 2009 at 9:57 pm #180365dxace1

the SOUND drivers and using Stereo

Dell laptops. . . has anyone else recorded
sound sucessfully with the NC-10….?January 18, 2009 at 10:04 pm #180366Sam

Welcome to the forum!
No idea myself but I think this thread may help you? Link
[/quote1232316022]Hi, appreciate your reply. Hadn’t seen that thread however it seems to be more about finetuning your sound when recording, whereas my problem is I can’t seem to get any onboard sound recognised by Audacity.
Looked for the “turn off your micboost under volume control >properties >advanced controls” however I couldn’t find this setting by going through the options after right clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar.

MemberHave you had a look in the Realtek panel (in XP control panel) for some solutions? For some reason you can’t access it from the taskbar…..
By the way could you use the information from the other thread and use a male/male jack in the line out/mic-in on the NC10 to record sound?

[/quote1232318045]Thanks, found the micboost setting there and unchecked it but it didn’t make any difference – still getting a “dead” line when hitting the record button.
No idea on the male/male jack idea, however I’d hope you’d be able to record sound that’s playing without the need to go out and back in. Can record sound from VLC fine on my desktop computer, however I have Total recorder installed on that. Might have to try that on the NC10 and see if that works…

MemberOk just to follow up on this… I ended up uninstalling Audacity and trying Total Recorder instead. With Total Recorder I was able to record audio from an avi file playing in VLC as I wanted.
So it can be done, just that I couldn’t manage to do it using Audacity!

MemberCool, I’ve been using Free Sound Recorder Link I couldn’t work out how to record from the sound card until I found the stereo mix setting in the Realtek panel

MemberI updated soundcard drivers as in other thread but still unable to record. Turned out Audacity had defaulted to Mic Volume instead of Stereo Mix

Also on clicking the Realtek HD Audio Manager on Mixer tab I found Stereo mix was turned right down. Can now record in Audacity -
