MemberHave installed a 320GB hard drive today, two partitions, one has XP pro on and other has windows 7 on, i think im gonna remove the windows 7 though as XP Pro is a lot faster for browsing and openeing programmes and stuff.
Anyway, question is can i install the Samsung backup software ? i tried installing it from the CD but it says i dont have a backup hidden partition, is there anyway to create one? and if so does it have to be labelled a certain name ? I just like it as its a real simple backup solution.
Appreciate any help

ParticipantCurrently there is no way of recreating the recovery partition.
EDIT: Take a look at this thread, on page 3 PanMan recieved an email from Samsung saying there is no way to restore the recovery partition.
EDIT2: When I say there is no way of recreating the partition, you can create the partition itself. Just not the contents.
The only possible way would be to copy it from the original hard drive.

MemberThanks for the info, is there then anyway to “clone” the entire contents of the original 160gb drive, then copy it to the 320GB drive and then install my new OS and still have the hidden partition on there?
If so whats the best way and software to do this ? i have a home PC plus external DVD drive and external hard drives and an external 2.5″ SATA USB caddy.
cheers again

MemberYou can download and install the Samsung Recovery Solution on your new drive and use it to make backups. However it is not the same as pressing F4 on your old drive.

MemberOops! I install it on the original HD.
Did not realised you need the Recovery Hidden Partition.
What a pain! Sorry.Your next choice might be to use Acronis True Image.

Fcat,
What I have used is Clonezilla, it’s a free download but it is a ISO that you have to burn to CD. I will suggest you have the drive to be cloned in your computer and the new drive in an USB adapter. Boot up with Clonezilla and one of the functions is a drive to drive copy. I have used it and it works well. You can have it adjust to the larger drive during the copy process.
I had a system that I was outgrowing the internal drive and I found Clonezilla. Plugged the new drive into a USB adapter and started the process. Took a few wrong turns in the learning process, no harm done, just had to start over. Once done, you then swap the old drive out for the new one. And yes, it copies the hidden partitions. I find Clonezilla works very well for me and I love it! 🙂 JohnPDecember 28, 2011 at 6:17 am #180689shayden1304
MemberHi everyone. This may not work for everyone but its very easy. I deleted the Samsung OEM partition because I thought the recovery CD would take care of this. I was wrong..There are many tools out there from forensic software (Encase) and just normal recovery tools. No matter what you can format the drive and bits of data are still on there and just need to be sorted.
Anyway, I used Active Partition Recovery and it pulled the Samsung partition back. Ran Samsung recovery and everything loaded fine.Hope this helps some of you
