MemberHi, I’ve searched posts on the forum about this but would like a bit of reassurance I suppose. Like others I’ve tried updating the wlan driver via the Samsung update utility several times without success.
I’ve noted that some have apparently updated manually. Sorry about this but how do you actually do it?
Do you have to extract the files from the zip and run setup? Does this update or reinstall and you have to re configure. I seem to remember something about recommending that it is best to allow windows to control the wlan .
thanks for your time.March 1, 2009 at 11:10 pm #185230tikkalalee

MemberYou can manually update the driver by downloading and extracting the zip to a folder on your desktop for example. You can then go to the Wifi card under Device Manager and select Update Driver and manually point it to the folder where you extracted the drivers. If you are unsure of doing things this way then it is recommended that you use any setup/install file to update the drivers and follow any instructions. The latest driver on the Samsung website is WLAN_Atheros_7.6.1.210. **Note that you can rollback the driver if you find that updating has created any problems. I can’t guarantee that this will always work but Windows should revert back to the previous driver by selecting this option under Device Manager.
I can also relate to Tikkalalee’s problem with updating the driver though I had a problem with the pre-installed driver as well. Neither version 7.6.1.210 nor the pre-installed version 7.6.1.160 would work for me. I had to resort to using a much older driver to connect (version 5.3.0.56 from the Atheros website).
In the end I ordered an Intel 5300 card and just today swapped out the Atheros wifi card for an Intel and everything is working perfectly.

MemberI used the drivers from an Asus eee 900 CD which gave me the option to use the Atheros configuration utility (though it’s not incredibly special). I also installed a wireless LAN monitor from the same folder on the Asus CD which has a lot of interesting diagnostic and monitoring features.

MemberMy Nc10 also was losing wireless connection every day and required repowering my netgear wpn824 router to reestablish communication, although three other wireless devices always held steady. Tried the new atheros driver 7.6.1.210 and same problem. Finally went back to older 5 series driver 5.3.0.56 and it seems to be holding OK now – just two days though. It also changed name of card in Device Manager to AR5006X. If this doesn’t keep working, how do you change out the WLAN card, is it difficult, and will it void warranty? Any advice will be appreciated

[/quote1236046463]This is exactly what happened to me so I manually went and downloaded the driver off Samsung’s site. Won’t use the update software again.

[/quote1236079023]Happened to me also. Had to do a lot of fiddling about with a problematic System Restore before I got it working. I think I will now just leave my wireless connection alone

MemberWondering what to do now. My new Sammy seems stuck trying to install this WLAN udate via Update Plus. Has been 20 minutes now it’s trying to install it.
Is there a way to safely exit the update install? Do I have to just power down? What?
EDIT>
after 30 minutes finally just closed the install, hope i don’t have to use restore. i don’t have a home wireless connection to test. is there a way to test it’s functionality without actually using it? should i just now download the update from the website? it appears as though it got installed, but don’t believe it.August 9, 2009 at 11:02 am #185241Thin Air
Member@griezzel:
Same here.
Took ages here aswell. I finally stopped the process. All seemed to work well though.
Just to be sure I did download the driver and did a manuall install.August 9, 2009 at 11:28 am #185243griezzel
MemberSo can we just use Update Plus to notify us of new updates without automatically installing them?

MemberMy WLAN update took forever as well. Unfortunately my wifi stopped immediately after it did install. I had to restore to the previous day to fix it which messed up my antivirus, which I ended up having to re-install. Updates? Forget it!

MemberThe same to me. Now I haven’t connexion at all. But I’m not as clever as you guys in computing. How do I restore the WLAN to the previous version? Where do I find it?
Any suggestion will be more than welcome…

Memberclick on start menu, click on accessories, then click on system tools. there you there you will see system restore. click on that. there you will see restore computer to earlier time. a calender will
pop up. click on date, and restore to that point. there are other methods also.August 10, 2009 at 12:09 am #185232dockehr
Memberthere are plenty of threads noting that Update Plus is pretty useless. Some moderators and others have removed it from their computers and go directly to the Samsung website for updates and downloads. Hope this helps.
