Memberthe nag screen is easy to remove from Avira.
I’d suggest either Avira if all you do is webmail, or Avast if you use a dedicated email client like OE or Firebird.

MemberAnother vote for Avast.

MemberThe latest norton has received praise from all the press who as like many people believed their software was resource hungry. I warned people when building pcs to stay away from norton as it was a slow monster. Not any more though norton 2009 IS the fastest lightest AV i have ever used. And so do the pc mags agree

MemberYeah but I have heard that Norton and McAfee miss out some critical viruses during their scans… in some magazine called PCPro. Would it not be safer to stick to the AVGs and the Avasts?

Membervery few make the virus bullitin 100 score. but then again lets not forget the user has the ultimate say. Apart from drive by downloads, its normally the user that accepts and installs a virus. the anti virus software can only do so much.

avg
avast
norton
kasperskyamongst others scored 100 percent in the virusbullting test which is universally used

MemberHi all, I’m new to the forum, got a nc10 for some time now.. I installed COMODO antivirus and firewall on it. It’s absolutely free and version 3.xx seems quite light on resources. Maybe someone else has tried it and can give his opinion. So far I’m pretty happy with it.
regards,
riccardo

MemberWelcome Riccardo. 🙂
I too am using COMODO and I’m pretty happy with it, so another plus voted from me. Doesn’t seem to hog resources which is always good.

MemberDitto on Comodo. I use it on 3 of my computers and much prefer it to Zone Alarm and it’s many iterations over the years.

http://www.free-av.com/And you can follow these instructions to remove the nag screen:

MemberI’m with Milo on the Avira front, been using it for some time.
Thanks for the nag screen tip though, its a tadge annoying on the sammy as its larger than the screen space ;o)

MemberBeen using Avast for years. Have it installed on all my family, friends computers.
No complaints from them about it.December 17, 2008 at 5:11 pm #170286Chirimolla
MemberI’m running my NC10 au naturel.
I’ll run a web-based virus scan every few weeks or so, but as I don’t spend my time on dodgy websites, downloading free smileys, or using Internet Explorer, I never seem to have any problems.

[/quote1229660448]I would concur. I can live with the screen since the program is free, but its annoying that the OK box is off the screen. I would follow the directions about how to disable it, but I thought I remembered reading that this is the same service that displays other notices http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadid=21625. Anybody know if I am understanding this last part correctly?

MemberI put in a vote for the new Norton 2009. I was about to ditch Norton the next time around. I have a three computer license so I went ahead and did the upgrade to 2009 when they sent me an email. I have it now on all three comptuers and I must say that it is a HUGE improvement.
I am going ahead in a few weeks and renewing my license for another year. I suggest that you download a trial copy and give it a go. You will find it quite agile compared to the Norton of the past.
