Memberbest free antivirus which uses less system resources? AVG 7 used to be the best but AVG 8 seems to drag more, what do you guys use?

Memberim using a 90 days free trial of norton antivirus 2009 which now has the smallest footprint of any antivirus, norton are so confident about this they include a system meter on their interface. install is small and quick and scans are the fastest i have seen. oem version can be had for a tenner.
As for free avast gets a good rating apparently but never used it.

MemberI tried Kasperski on an Eee box which also uses a Atom processor and had loads of problems. I now use Avira Antivir on both my Eee box and NC10 which apart from the nag screen seems fine. Very low on resources.

MemberAVG 8 is perhaps a little more bloated than 7 but it’s still not bad at all. I’ve not had any issues whatsoever with it and hardly even notice it….. except for when it tells me it has successfully installed an update.
The Norton trial sounds great though – will try it out too.

MemberTheRing: I saw your post elsewhere on the site and have downloaded it already just not installed it yet. Thank you though, good tip. Perhaps I’ll see if I can get the £10 OEM version, any ideas where from?

MemberTo be honest, there isn’t much difference in the results between the top 4, so any of them should be sufficient.
I use AVG 8.0 on all 3 of my computers and find it works great. It’s also good to hear to Symantec have finally gotten round to sorting out Norton Anti-Virus and its need to hog so much system resources, as I used to love it back in the day.

Member+1 Avast. Comparatively lower resources required than the other scanners.
