Got my wife the NC10. We’re trying to add Office 2003. I put the disk in another computer and copied it to an external Hard Drive. When I tried to install using USB hard drive It said the install was corrupted. Should I just buy an external dvd-cd drive or try to network the two computers? I tried to network the two computers but I couldn’t get it to work. I think I was using the wrong type of cable. I also want to transfer her Itunes from the old computer to the new one. Sorry this is long but as you can tell I am not to computer literate. Thanks

Welcome seanoble.Office (and for that matter Windows) installation disks are not ordinary files in folders on disks – they are image files and before you can read the disks you have to ‘unpack’ the information on them.
I’d recommend formatting a USB stick which is large enough to contain the image file from the Office installation CD.
Then install Daemon Tools Lite on the PC which has the CD/DVD drive. This will enable you to mount the image file for Office 2003 as if it was an ordinary folder. You can then copy all the files from the disc to the USB drive, attach this to your NC10 and install Office.
Alternatively, you could create a folder on your external hard drive, e.g. Office Install, and copy the installation files to this folder, attach your hard drive to the NC10 and install Office from this.

To directly connect two network devices, you need a crossover cable rather than the more usual patch cable. If you need any more help – don’t hesitate to contact me 🙂

Most modern computers/networking equipment uses automatic crossover now, I just use standard cat5/6 cables to directly connect my computers together, including the NC10January 27, 2009 at 8:15 pm #181529TCMuffinMember[quote1233087262=Alfihar]

Thank you Alfihar – I told you I was old !lolJanuary 28, 2009 at 2:36 pm #181532seanobleMemberI tried networking the Sammy with a 1 year old HP laptop with Vista loaded on it. I used a Cat 5 cable but it didn’t seem to work. Could I have had the setup sequence wrong? I’m pretty sure the cable was not of the cross-over type. Thanks again.
January 28, 2009 at 2:49 pm #181527AlfiharParticipantHow did you set it up?
Did you set the static IP’s correctly?
e.g. 10.0.1.1 for the desktop, 10.0.1.2 for the NC10January 28, 2009 at 4:26 pm #181531ParodyMemberFor iTunes, this How-To might be helpful. If iTunes is managing your library, it’s pretty simple. If not, you might have some editing to do.
January 28, 2009 at 5:16 pm #181533seanobleMemberNo I didn’t set any static IP’s. I guess I will have to get more information on setting up networks. I was trying to do it from a small chapter in a PC for Dummys book and it didn’t have that in it. Thanks for your help………..Carl
Also thanks for the link to Itunes transfer.

Hi CarlJust a quick thought. If you have your iTunes library on an iPod, you may find the easiest way to copy the library to your NC10 is directly from the iPod to the netbook using the iDump utility.
