I am trying to add Microsoft office 2007 that I purchased from the retailer.
I am attempting to downloa the software from the microsoft web site in a facility especially designed for netbooks without disk drives.
Unfortunately I sem to be unable to download the software, and keep getting a ‘failed’ box on the screen whenever I try.
I am using an o2 dongle device to access the internet, on the first few tries I manged to start the software download but it stopped aftert the internet connection was temporarily lost.
Is it the low speed of the internet connection that prevents me downloading the software or the capacity of the dongle or somehting else.
I have only owned my NC10 for a week and really enjoy it.
Any help or suggestions are very helpful, PS I am not too computer literate, but am willing to learn.

The Office 2007 download must be pretty large so it is possible that the dongle is stopping you downloading such a large file. Is it possible for you to try connecting a different way and try the download again? E.g. using a WiFi network.
You should be able to see the signal strength of the dongle in the software that came with it. Make sure you’re getting a 3g connection. You won’t be able to do anything except view web pages very slowly unless you are connected at 3g speeds.

Do you have a friend with a wired or wireless network that you could use to connect to the Microsoft site? Alternatively, if you’re in town, you may find free wireless access at some high street mainstays: McDonalds restaurants; JD Wetherspoons, Slug & Lettuce, and Walkabout pubs; Pret a Manger; Coffee Republic cafes.
The JiWire Advertising Network web site enables you to search for a wifi hotspot by postcode.
Hope that helps….if you try it and it doesn’t work….feel free to ask again 🙂
February 15, 2009 at 9:36 pm #183875netbookMemberstop press Ive installed MS office. I did it by putting the MS office disc into my other laptop which has a disk drive, then put in the USB flash drive and simply copied the files from the disk onto the flash drive. I then inserted the flash drive into the NC10 and clicked on the set up file in the flash drive…..and it worked. Thanks to all the peolple who helped especially ‘hufn’ who mentioned the flash drive method in another part of the forum.
Thanks again. I have now all the office suite in miniature awesome!

– download from Microsoft
– copy installation files from CD to a USB memory stick using another computer
– access the CD drive of another computer over a network that contains the office installation CDFebruary 19, 2009 at 9:20 pm #183874BylaMemberBack in the olden days (Win NT 4.0) when CDROM drives were expensive and not in most desk tops, we had to share the drive off the server.
A 4th way would be to get a USB CDROM drive.
