MemberDefinitely agree that the Acer has some great features. With regard to the glossy screen, it is personal choice.
My Toshiba 17″ laptop has a glossy screen and it is beautiful. It tends to be desk bound and where it is positioned I’ve never had any issues with reflections whatsoever and the gloss does seem to make image and text much nicer to look at.ALL OF THAT SAID (!) matte screens are much easier on the eye for long periods. I too spend a while looking at the screen for lengths of time and definitely feel that matte screens are much better for this. Actually the “glare” (not reflections) from a glossy screen are really quite tiresome!
Toshiba’s netbook entry has been heavily criticised for it’s glossy screen which is so ridiculously glossy in all the press shots at a launch, all you could see was the surrounds and not what was on the screen… perhaps it’s some weird security measure so people can’t see what you’re doing on it!?!?
Incidentally, does anyone know who’s bought a toshiba netbook?? Is it just me or are they absolutely hideous as well as being a poor specification!?!

MemberI was thinking to buy the AA1. The points which got me to the NC10 were the 6 cell battery, large keyboard, piano black finish (what sucked afterwards, fingerprints everywhere).

MemberI am aware that there is a place for matte finish screens and I would never question anyone for preferring one, especially in an office environment. Most of the time I use a laptop (or netbook) reflections are not an issue. My new HP DV-5 15″ has a glossy screen and it is wonderful. Black levels and color saturation are wonderful as they are on the AA1. I see much deeper blacks and deeper colors on these screens in comparison to the NC-10
I have found that certain people are sensitive certain things in regards to image quality. I could never see the rainbow effect on a DLP set, yet I have a co-worker that can. I just happen to be sensitive to the silk screen effect and unfortunately I see it on the NC-10. No worrys though. I like the NC-10 for it’s other well known virtues and I am planning on keeping it unless a notably better netbook comes along.
I should point out that some of the best (and best reviewed) LCD TV sets use glossy screens. The Samsung 900 series and Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 7 come to mind.

MemberUntil I saw this forum I was considering the highest speced AA1.
However after reading this forum and playing with one in “the flesh”, the following points in this order sold the NC10 to me.
1) 6 cell battery with very good life
2) Keyboard and trackpad design – I find the rocker button design easier to use than the AA1 buttons ( and the scroll function is handy too ! )
3) Ease of memory upgrade if required – remove a screw etc
– no need to take the machine apartMike

MemberI was between the aspire one and the nc10 for a while. I was orignially leaning towards the aspire because it was almost $100 cheaper. (that was with the 6 cell on either). Even with the 6 cell battery ( a must for me regardless) the nc10 has been reviewed to get better life than the aspire. Also, the keyboard was slightly larger, and the screen was slighly larger. All those together, and the fact that I’d be keeping it several years anyway, the more money was worth it in the end…
Plus, having sold a dell laptop to get this (3 year old 9300 as a matter of fact) it cost me a total of $6.10 🙂

MemberIt was the One that made me know I wanted a Netbook! As I don’t have a lot of money to throw around a £300 purchase is a big deal for me and a lot of research must be done! I found that looking a bit further into what was available it as the Advent (re badged Wind) that got my interest. It was the 10″ screen that made me realise the One was not for me. With that info I just kept looking and TBH it was seeing the NC10 on the PC World site that made me wait. It appeared on there site a good while before it was released and put simply it was that fact that you got so much more with it for the same price as other net books! Was a bit ticked off that it as released £22 more than expected but am still totally satisfied with my purchase.

MemberI seriously considered the AA1, but for me the battery life and keyboard were the killers in deciding to buy the NC10.
Having bought it, my friend has an AA1 and I’ve found its trackpad is much more awkward than the NC10’s trackpad.
All in all, I’m really pleased with the NC10 – nothing else comes close 🙂

MemberI had an Aspire One but couldn’t get on with the touchpad buttons being on the sides of the trackpad, it just drove me mad. Also the screen gave me a headache, thankfully the NC10 doesn’t do that !!
