I used to have a FS Biblio 10″ touchscreen notebook, many years ago when I used to have to carry a NB around with me all the time. When the travelling lessened I upgraded to a Lenovo R60 as I (thought I) needed more power.
Actually, need more hours in the day now and my commute is a 1 hour train journey each way so thought i would utilise this. My wife wanted something to browse the web on on her lap in the evening, so a search for something that met both criteria ensued.
Check list:
– Good battery life as I am sick of short-lived mobile computing 🙂
– Cool , quiet and light for lap use
– Portable but not too small for work on commute
– Responsive enough for word processing, web design and web browsing while also being able to play movies
The Acer Aspire One was top of my list, until I looked on eBay and noticed the reason a lot of them were coming up was down to them being too small. Coupled with the extra £60 for a 6-cell battery and the initial cost benefit is gone. I used a friend’s on the train the other morning and it appeared very sluggish in use.
This made me look around and I came across the NC10. A quick stats check and verify that the battery was indeed as good as quoted and off I went to buy one.

edit: my only real niggle so far is the random appearing in my text next to letters that should be upper case…… 🙂
